Apple security scam

These scams can appear in a variety of forms. Phony "tech support" / "ransomware" popups and web pages - Apple Community has a few examples and what to do about them — which is exactly what you did. Close the page and forget about it.

This is actually a quite common bogus security alert; numerous posts here exactly like yours.

Ignore it and try and steer clear of the site where you got it.

If you start seeing scam notifications appear In the upper right-hand corner of your screen – like, say, a notification with the System Settings icon saying "Your iCloud is being hacked! Click here to remove the virus" – don't click on them.

Here's another kind of scam criminals try to pull on you: false billing statements for things you never ordered. If you contact the "customer support" number they so "helpfully" provide to resolve the "problem", you will deliver yourself into the hands of the criminals, to be scammed.

This is a real e-mail – obviously not from PayPal. I have edited out the scammers' Reply-To address (although they don't deserve that courtesy), the alleged "Order Processed By" address, and of course the phone number that the criminals want you to call to "resolve" the "issue."

If I actually thought that criminals had made this fraudulent charge to my credit card, I would check directly with my credit card company (using known good contact information), and dispute the charge directly with them.
