How do I request a refund from Apple?

Hello, could you kindly help with a refund for DB app. I didn’t realize I had subscribed to the app. I haven’t used it. Just tried it for a day when I learnt about the app. But did not use it.

If you have already cancelled the subscription, all you can do is try to request a refund here:

Request a refund for apps or content that you bought from Apple - Apple Support

In order to prevent accidental purchases, you are required to double click the side button with the amount showing on the screen, followed by verification with Face ID/Touch ID or Passcode. In most cases, once a purchase has been made, the sale is final and you will be charged.

Refunds are not guaranteed. When you sign up for a free trial, you agree to pay for the subscription unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the trial ends. Forgetting to cancel is not usually a valid reason for a refund, but Apple will make the final decision.

The support article If you see 'apple.com/bill' on your billing statement - Apple Support explains how you can check your iTunes and App Stores purchase history, cancel subscriptions, and track possible sources of unrecognized Apple charges you may see on a bill. These may be purchases by family members if you are an organizer of a Family Sharing group, or possibly a second Apple ID you use. The article also provides a specific link for contacting Apple if you cannot trace the source of charges. If you use Apple Card you may find this document helpful too ➞ If you see an Apple Services charge you don't recognize on your Apple Card - Apple Support

Also note this service: View your App Store and iTunes Store purchases directly from your financial institution - Apple Support

"When you sign in to your financial institution website or mobile app and view your recent purchases from the App Store, iTunes Store, Apple Books, or for Apple Music or iCloud services, you may see an option—such as View Receipt—that allows you to view more details about your transaction."

Other possibilities to consider (not all may apply in your situation):

● Purchases can be made with your ID if your Apple ID is compromised (read what to do ➞ If you think your Apple ID has been compromised - Apple Support ) or somebody else has access to your device (require a purchase password as explained in this article ➞ Require a password for App Store and iTunes purchases - Apple Support ).

● If you only see a charge in emails or texts that are not official Apple receipts, it is likely phishing attempts (see the article: Recognize and avoid phishing messages, phony support calls, and other scams - Apple Support ).

● If you are absolutely certain neither you, nor Apple, nor a Family Sharing member can account for a charge and it ONLY appears on a bill for a charge card you alone control, you may have been the victim of card fraud. Contact your financial institution.

● Small amounts of ~$1 may be an authorization hold that will be refunded (pending charge ➞ How apps, content, and subscriptions from Apple are billed - Apple Support ).

● Unanticipated amounts may be grouped charges ( How apps, content, and subscriptions from Apple are billed - Apple Support ).

If a purchase is listed in your purchase history and you want to ask for a refund, read this article about how to request a refund for apps or content that you bought from Apple ➞ Request a refund for apps or content that you bought from Apple - Apple Support

If a Family Sharing member made the purchase then you need to discuss this with that person. They would have to initiate any refund request.

If a reporting a problem request is unsuccessful or you have another issue you can also speak with Apple ➞ Choose your country or region - Official Apple Support

Select your country (if you do not see your country, also look for "other" regions; e.g., "Other Africa"), then "Choose a product". Click the "show" item under each category for more selections. If you don't see one that handles your issue then keep experimenting with selections until you reach one that gets you a chat session or a telephone call and get the representative to redirect you.

Sorry, but this is a user to user support site and you are not speaking to Apple here. You will need to follow the link that has been provided many times in these 3 pages. Remember, all transactions are final in the App Store, but on occasion Apple may provide a compassionate refund. You may be better served in figuring out what happened to those charges and if they were in-app purchases that are not consumables, then you can restore them here:

I got a subscription from Sportsbox. I did not mean to. I canceled it but the subscription runs until 2025 and cost $110. When I follow the instructions and get to the place where I choose the app to request a refund Sportsbox is not listed even though it is listed when I just look at my apps under my Apple account

Then your subscription was signed up on their website instead of an in-app purchase. They offer a free trial on their website, but your account is set up there and also managed by them. You will need to talk to them about getting a refund. Whenever you sign up on a website, you are bypassing Apple's in-app purchase method that allows you to easily cancel the subscription with Apple.

I sent my money to the wrong person

If you have sent money using Apple Cash, you will have to ask them for the money back. Apple says to never send Apple Cash to someone you do not know. This is the same as any cash transaction such as giving money to someone on the street.

Apple Cash person-to-person payments are like any other private transaction between two people, so only send and receive money with people you know. If you have questions or concerns about a transaction, please contact us.

Hello~ Apple has the final say on refunds. Keep in mind that they are never guaranteed. Keep working with Apple on this but to prevent purchases if someone else made a purchase on your iPhone for example a child…

Yes there could possibly be someone using your Apple ID/Password. This would have to be information given out by you, but it is possible you were tricked with a Phishing email/message. Change your Password and Passcode to your device.

Do you see a subscription using this link. You can also use it to see your purchase history to see the date of the transaction.

Subscriptions and Billing - Official Apple Support

If you are the Organizer of a Family Plan, it could also come from Family members. When you use Purchase Sharing in that plan, you are authorizing other family members to use your payment method.

It could also be that your credit card was compromised by using it at a terminal that scammers installed a skimmer or shimmer to capture your card information.

It is not that Apple is just taking money from you for no reason. It is essential to find out the source of these charges in order to prevent them in the future. TikTok will do anything it can to get you to sign up for a premium service and you may have started a free trial that later turned into a subscription. It is important to note that any in-app purchase/subscription that is managed by Apple requires the user to double click the side button with the amount showing on the screen followed by verification using FaceID/TouchID or Passcode. This is not something that can be done by accident.

You have to do all that using the correct procedure. If you do not use that procedure, posting here will not accomplish it.

Also note that refunds are not guaranteed.

Confirm you have canceled any subscription automatic renewal (if you simply delete an app this does not cancel subscriptions):

Review the information in this support article by clicking on the link to learn how to cancel a subscription from Apple. ➔ If you want to cancel a subscription from Apple - Apple Support

If you subscribed to this in the EU from a third party, see: About purchases not billed through the App Store or the App Store's In-App Purchase system - Apple Support instead.

Notes:

• "If you signed up for a free or discounted trial subscription and you don't want to renew it, cancel it at least 24 hours before the trial ends."

• An existing subscription will normally continue until the end of its term and may then renew automatically. Stopping automatic renewal is effectively canceling it. "If you don’t see Cancel Subscription, then the subscription is already canceled and won't renew." The "Expires" date means the current subscription will just run until then. Note special conditions for some countries: About canceling subscriptions in Germany, Israel, South Africa, or Türkiye - Apple Support

• Read the article to see what to do about subscriptions that do not appear in your list. If you still can't find a subscription, contact Apple Support using the link at the end of the support article.

• Canceling a subscription does not automatically start a refund.

If you wish to pursue a refund, follow the directions in this support article about how to request a refund for apps or content that you bought from Apple ➔ Request a refund for apps or content that you bought from Apple - Apple Support

I didn’t Approve or agreed to the five transactions that’s been taken out of my account can I please get my money back

First review the provided links in this thread and report back what you have found out. You will be able to:

  • Review Purchases
  • Review Subscriptions
  • Request Refund

You may be better served finding out how those transactions occurred and may not have realized that you did inadvertently approve them. Preventing that from happening in the future will prevent future headaches:

  • Giving out your Passcode authorizes others to use your device and that includes purchases
  • A Family Organizer is responsible for purchases of family members when they use Purchase Sharing
  • Parental Controls are available to prevent purchases, but they must be used for those who do not want their child making their own purchases. This includes Ask to Buy, Requiring Password for purchases, Preventing in-app purchases, and preventing any app from being downloaded. Each family dynamic is different and all Apple can do is provide you the tools to tailor it for your needs.
  • Purchases made outside the App Store are not managed by Apple. Be careful about ads that you may see on Social Media sites that direct you to a page where they will convince you to make a small purchase and then sign up for a subscription inadvertently. These can only be cancelled with that developer. You will not see these charges when viewing your Purchase History or Subscriptions made in the App Store.
  • A free trial through the App Store must be cancelled at least 24 hours before the trial ends, otherwise you will be automatically signed up for the subscription that was on your screen when you approved the free trial.

Only you can control who is authorized to use your phone and that includes making purchases. Apple gives you the tools if you want to prevent purchases on your device and a child's device, but they must be used by you. The only thing Apple knows is that the person has been authorized to use your device and this was verified using FaceID or the Passcode. We can provide more information on any of these tools if you wish:

  • Passcode - prevents access to your device
  • Require Password for purchases
  • Ask to Buy for child's device to approve purchases
  • Screen Time Restrictions to prevent in-app purchases
  • Screen Time Restrictions to prevent downloading apps

Not sure about the details of the purchases you did not make, but if it was due to fraud, you can dispute the charge with your payment method. A police report may be required.
