Apple is missing a key SAFETY feature. Garmin Livetrack or Strave Beacon style, workout based location and crash detection sharing.
Apple needs the equivalent of Strava Beacon or Garmin Livetrack.
In Apple lingo, this would be workout tracking.
This tracking would be constrained to the active workout activity. This means it starts and ends with the workout activity.
Find my is not the same. It is not even an embarrassing attempt at a substitute.
Find my would be a privacy problem as those I share my alway location with are not in the same tier as those I might share my workout activity. People on find my could be states or countries away.
Find my requires those sharing data have Apple Devices. What if my roommate only has android?
This tool should be web based and device brand/flavor agnostic. Notification via email or text.
(All data access to workout would have to not be through iOS. You don't limit your sales website to iOS app access, so don't say it can't be done. It just doesn't conveniently fit the way you do it now)
The scope is the start and end of the activity.
Crash detection during the activity should first go to the contacts with the shared workout tracking.
Limit the contacts to a reasonable number, say 3.
Currently, the lack of this feature on Apple has me holding on to 3k worth of Garmin devices. Livetrack, alone, makes them superior to all of Apples consumer conveniences.
Live track or Beacon is causing you a bigger sales problem with Ultra and Ultra 2 than you realize.
This is the one area where you actually have inferior software. And, its a basic SAFETY feature on par with shutting down the device when the battery is too hot.
