iPhone lagging and slow after iOS 17 Update

I was advised to:

(1) Reset the dictionary back to the default (for me, that is just English)

(2) Make sure all apps are turned off

(3) Restart the phone

(4) Test the lag whether still happening

(5) Add back dictionaries needed.

It seemed to work for me thereafter.

Additional step suggested was to turn off the Predictive text in Keyboard as part of the above, then add it back in after restarting the phone.

I did a factory restore after backing up (encrypted) to Mac.

All issues gone.

These 2 steps are highly recommended.

i guess i solved this lag situation. i have this situation since ios 17 update. i connected to apple live chat support many times but they cant find how can fix it this problem. my device is iphone 12 128gb and everything is ok before the ios 17. when i updated my phone sometimes control center's swipe animations being laggy. its works like 30hz not 60hz when this problem happening. im using 17.5 ios and still apple didnt fix it. nvm so i tried to turn off automatic screen brightness on accessibility>screen and my phone works now healthy. its never lagged the swipe animation after this change, i turned on automatic brightness one time after that this problem continues.

it's since October that my safari became slow despite i always have the latest iphone..

also the problem occurred on my latest iphone 15 because i did migration from my last 14 and of course it migrated also the problem..

i tried now to disable all dictionary and the problem has been solved

Hi Guys,

After days with Apple support team none were able to solve. I figured with out myself. The issue is with siri suggestion in contacts. You need to turn it off. Apparently when you search for contacts if the siri option is on it gives its own suggestion too. This wasnt the case earlier so i guess its a bug which needs to be fixed. Hope this helps anyone facing same.

Hey I can suggest you some useful tips from this guide: 9 Steps to fix an iPhone that is lagging and slow after iOS 17 Update. You said your browser is sluggish, for this consider clearing your browser cache and data, you should update all of the Apps on your iPhone, this will make a huge difference. For keyboard slowness, they recommend to have only one keyboard enabled and remove any other if you are having on your phone. Rest check out all steps and apply them from the guide, hope this will help

There have been several incremental iOS 17 updates released. Please be sure to install the latest available updates before restarting your device again. It can also be helpful to install App Store updates if you have not already.

• How to manually update apps on your Apple device.
• Update your iPhone or iPad.
• Restart your iPhone.

I seem to have fixed it. Installed latest upgrade and re-installed Outlook and teams which were the worst apps. That seems to have solved it - for now at least. So maybe try and reinstall some of the apps that are lagging the most.

My 12 Pro was extremely lagging but it started to work normally after proceeding with dictionary reset, closing application and phone cycle power. Then I switched on missing dictionaries and there is no performance issue anymore !

Ios 17.3 fixed most of my issues I was having with previous 17 versions.

I have an iPhone 13 mini with 17.4 installed, and responsiveness has been unbearable over the past few weeks. I tried disabling all dictionaries, closing all apps, and restarting (as noted by ianxteo). Responsiveness, has been restored so far. I also disabled predictive text. Thanks for the tip ianxteo!

I have the new iOS update 17.1.1 and it looks like it is solved! Woooeh!

Confirm 17.3 brings some stability at least imo to camera and a few other bugs but also some new ones as well such as Find My app even though not in use, Find my functions turned off is constantly on battery stats. I've removed the Find My app and this seems to have fixed it. The more I use this phone the more functions I disable to make it work throughout the day.
