I just noticed this chess game on my mac today Sep 21 2023. The info says it was created on Sep 2 2023. I did not download this. I don't even know how to play chess.
I've seen on other posts that it cannot be deleted but I find it odd that Apple would include something like this in an OS update randomly.
Anyone else?

It's been part of the macOS since it was Mac OS. It may have been recently updated.
You omitted the answer from that Get Info panel:
Just to add some detail, Chess has been bundled with the operating system since 2001 in Mac OS X 10.0.
That doesn’t tell me why it was just installed on Sep 2. I can see a million answers with this information but after a decade of using Macs, this is the first time I’ve seen it.
