Unable to print from Photos app from iPhone 12 using iOS 17

Since updating to iOS 17 on iPhone 12, I am unable to print from the Photos app. It prints a blank page to all the network printers. I am, however, able to print documents or web pages. Printing from Photos continues to work properly for my co-workers still using iOS 16.

A workaround for images printing as blank from the photos app I’ve found is to change the picture options menu (underneath where it show how many photos selected for sharing action dialog) “Format” type from “automatic” to “most compatible” prior to choosing to print. Photos now print okay instead of blank pages.

setup: iPhone/ iPad ios17.1.2 to hp cp2025 printer via AirPrint server. Annoying extra step but at least I can print the images now. Duplexing still broken.

I may be a Bug in the iOS.

So, Report this as a Bug to Apple:

Do your Part. Give Apple feedback on this. Apple won't get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what issues are occurring, and what bug fixes to include in updates to come. Apple will know nothing of your issue, if you don't report it to Apple.

How to Give Feedback:

  1. Go Here: Feedback - Apple Music - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for "Feedback Type"
  3. Select: " "Bug Report” for “What Apple Music feature is your feedback about?"
  4. Comment: one when you came across this issues, wand how you have troubleshoot it this far
  5. Proceed from there as necessary

Having the same issue on my 14 Pro Max. I can print with all apps except from Photos where it sends a print command to my printer. I have an HP LaserJet Pro that’s smart enough to not print a blank page.

For now the workaround is using the HP Smart app but it’s annoying not being able to print directly from the photos app as I always have been able to.

Also, looks like this bug has been around since iOS 17 developer preview was launched back in June so not sure why Apple hasn’t decided to fix it.

Troubleshooting Printing from an iPhone:

A. Update the Printer's Firmware:

What's the model of your printer? If it has a LCD screen, then go into it, and find the setting to update the firmware in it. If it is standing alone, your printer needs to be connected to the internet to perform this.

B. Restart your iPhone:

Having recently installed an update, restart your iPhone: Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

C. Link to Use:

Reinstall the Printer:

Remove the printer, then install the drivers. Get the drivers from the manufacturer, and none other. Contact the Manufacturer for assistance with finding them. Perhaps they have an update link to give you? Request the correct drivers. If none exist for iOS17, then the Manufacturer has yet to do their part in making this compatible.

Yes! I get ‘The Littles’ needs more points, but come on. We’re not idiots. There’s a bug in the new iOS update.

Have a Hunch that it’s a Bug?

Then, by golly, report this as a bug! Get the point?!

same here. In the display of my HP-printer you can see for about 2 seconds „printing“ but after that nothing happens. For me not even a blank page. Using the iPhone of my daughter, still on iOS16, printing works. But for all devices on iOS17 or iPadOS17 printing fails. Printing using other apps (e.g. the „mails-app“) is OK.
