WatchOS 10.0.1 loading weather issue

Hello, Watch 8 on 10.0.1 and I am having problems with the weather widget / modular face. If I let it use the current location, it marks me all the time “ loading weather” but if I put a predefined city, it shows it without problems. Anyone else has this happen and knows how to solve it?

I have tried resetting the phone and the permissions and even updating the operating system to the latest version that came out yesterday but they continue to give me that problem

It usually happens when I move from one city to another, it's like it doesn't update the location on its own

My observations and a hack until Apple is not fixing this issue with and future update:

  • Please set on the preferences of the Apple Watch App on the iPhone "Current Location".
  • Go to the Apple Watch and close the Weather App by double pressing the crone and swiping from right to left every application which is open. With this you shut down the app in the cache.
  • Turn your Apple Watch completely off by pressing the power button right side, pressing the "shutdown-icon upper right and swiping from left to shut down the watch.
  • Wait some seconds to be sure that the Watch shut down completely and then turn it on again.
  • After Reboot of the Watch go to the preferences app on the watch (not iPhone) and see under the weather section what location is set as the default city...in my case it is "current location" then. This stays as long as you don't open the weather app on your Watch! When you open the Weather App on your watch (e.g. by pressing a complication), then in the preferences of the weather app on your watch the default city "current location" disappears and will be set to your the first fixed city you have on your list...and then the trouble starts with no updates on the complications etc.

I was having two issues (the same and one more): 1) list of locations on watch did not match list of locations on phone (watch showed Cupertino and New York - all watch and phone settings were set so location list should have matched); and 2) watch was not showing my current location. I un/re-paired the watch, reset the watch, rebooted both devices (soft and hard), toggled off/on privacy and location settings on phone and watch plus a few more things…nothing worked.

I then added a new weather location on my phone and the watch location list immediately updated to match the list on my phone. First issue resolved. Still no current location on the watch.

I then restarted both devices…still no current location on the watch. Then toggled off/on location settings on my phone…left it off for a few minutes. Force closed the weather app on my phone and watch. Turned location services back on…current location appeared on watch and complication updated (showing the current location per my setting).

Not sure what in this series resolved the second issue but current location and complications are both now working.

On my Apple Watch 8 I have used this method to fix the Apple Weather complication not working properly (it also fixed the Handwashing Reminder not working). Now weather location on my watch works and the complication always shows.

On your iPhone Go to Privacy & Security > Location Services, then at the top of the page toggle Location Services off, wait about 5 seconds then toggle it back on.

Hi!

I had the same issue, and see the steps to fix:

Settings-> General-> transfer or reset-> reset-> Reset Location & Privacy.

So, be careful to don't click on wrong reset option.

I did this reset in my Iphone 15, after that the phone will request the privacy question to all the app's again.

So, open the weather app, the phone will ask the privacy question. I select: 'while using'.

The weather is updating again in the watch, as supposed to!

Regards

Oh good, so it's not just me. I have the Ultra, on 10.0.1 and I just got my iPhone 15 Pro yesterday updated iOS and WatchOS. After updating to 10.0.1, my weather has not been loading, either.

In my Watch app on my phone, the weather app shows the proper weather locations (Seattle, Los Angeles, etc). However, when I view the weather app on my watch, it only shows the default cities of Cupertino and New York. On the actual watch face module, it just shows "--".

Hope this gets resolved soon.

WatchOS 10.0.2 was released today. MacRumors is suggesting this fixes problems with the Weather complications on Ultra 2. (but I only have a Series 9 so I can't test for myself).

Here’s what I did.

1. Power off your iPhone and leave it off

2. Power off your watch

3. Power on your watch

4. Tap on a WX complication, tap the Hamburger icon, tap

the current location and wait until it populates. You’ll need Wifi or cellular data.

5. Once you get the current location weather click the crown and wait until the complication displays the weather

6. Turn on your phone.

I think I’ve found a solution, at least for the time being:

  1. Go to Watch app on your iPhone
  2. Tap on “my faces” (I have my phone language set in Catalan, but get that, skins? Spheres? U know, home view)
  3. Go to “complications” and tap on wherever you have “temperature” (in my case, try yours)
  4. If yours have a “more…” option, tap in
  5. Tap on your selection again, even you’ve seen it selected with a ✔️ before.
  6. If you look your watch, now you should see it.

We'll see if it lasts for a while or what.
