Inaccessible file after file migration between two Mac Book Pros

After migrating files over the internet from an old MacBook Pro to a new MacBook Air with Monterey, Microsoft Word files transferred but when attempting to open, the message was the file was deleted or non-accessible. The file transferred because it shows the memory used by the file after the transfer. Any solutions to opening these files?

What exactly do you mean by "migrating files over the internet"?

If you were using Migration Assistant, the internet was not involved. If you used MA via wireless, that's not the internet but just your local network. And that process is slow and fraught with errors quite often.

Memory used doesn't confirm anything. Perhaps you mean disk space, storage, as files do take up space on your disk.

Word files should be accessible on a newer Mac assuming you have the Word app.

If you migrated Word from an old 32 bit OS to a new 64 bit OS, the old Word app will not run. You did not give enough data to determine if this is what's going on, but the problem is rather common.

If the above is the case, wrong bit architecture for Word, you'll need to buy a new Word app compatible with 64 bit macOS.

Or you could use FreeOffice or free LibreOffice. Both will use Word documents just fine. I prefer FreeOffice as it's smaller than LibreOffice. LibreOffice is, however, a more extensive suite.

Thanks, and yes. The files were migrated from a 12 year old MacBook Pro to the new MacAir. I was doing this for a friend and did discover she had a Microsoft Office account. I updated the old Office bundle app that migrated on the MacAir. Excel worksheets opened but the new Word didn’t. It messaged the files could not be opened, they may have been deleted. When I go back to my friend’s house this week I will try opening them up in Pages and then save in Word. Any other advice would be welcomed.
