Air tag loosing signal

I had to reset my air tags since got a new phone I can get the tag to start the pairing process but then all of a sudden it drops and says my Bluetooth needs to be on or tag closer

AirTag won't pair after battery replacement My AirTag will not pair with my iphone after replacing the battery. I cleaned off the back of the battery with alcohol to remove the bitterant of Duracell battery that says "AirTag Compatible". AirTag chirps so is connecting to battery. However, will not pair with my phone. I am having trouble connecting my ANNNWZZD air tag to my i phone. There is no tag to pull My bluetooth is on I need to cinnect my ANNNWZZD air tag to my i phone

A couple of questions:

Did you unpair this AirTag from your old iPhone BEFORE trying to pair it with your new phone?
When is the last time you changed the battery on this AirTag?
