if I can’t find the recovery code can I still get the account back

If you mean your recovery key, no. When you opted to use a recovery key you gave up being able to use Apple account recovery.
You may be able to generate a new key if you have a trusted device still logged into your account. Learn more here: Set up a recovery key for your Apple ID
