iOS 17 bug: Wi-Fi not connecting after restart iPhone and iPad.

After iOS 17 update when I close the device, and then open it again, does not connect automatically with my Wi-Fi. I have to get in the settings and then close and open the Wi-Fi so it connects.

This is happening to all our family devices. iPhone 13, iPhone 14 plus, iPad mini, iPad Pro M2.

Finally figured it out. Dang, was starting to look at android phones. If you have done all the routine things and still no help, see if you have the google one app. Delete it. Even if you have VPN turned off, doesn’t matter. Doesn’t matter that it all worked fine before the 17 update. I did everything including a complete restore of my phone, but since other iphones in the home with the same ios update did not have the problem, I figured it was some combination of the update and an app. I knew there was talk of von software causing an issue and I had this turned off. Didn’t matter. As soon as I deleted the google one app, wifi auto join and password entry was automatic once again. I am sure apple knows this but probably doesn’t care so much since it is a google *** incompatibility with the new upgrade, but son of a … Not a fun time figuring that out. Really odd that despite turned off in the main settings it was preventing my auto wifi recognition. I’d would think that worth looking at any VPN app as a possible suspect. Hope this helps anyone in this same situation.

I assure you, it’s not a problem with the WiFi. I updated one iPad and my iPhone 12 to IOS17. They no longer connect to the internet… immediately after the update completed. My other iPhone SE and IPad that I did not upgrade connect to the Internet perfectly… as before. It’s an IOS17 glitch. And I further assure you that this IS most certainly affecting many, many iPhone and iPad users.

I am getting the same results either way. I have no issues connecting to WiFi but get no internet connection. My workaround is to disable encryption and it works every time. I created a separate hidden WiFi channel with no encryption as a temporary fix for now.

My ISP is involved and they're scratching their heads, adjusted WiFi security, static IP, static DNS, factory reset my router, iPhone network reset, etc with no success so far. Windows laptops Linux laptop & Raspberry PI are all fine plus TV streaming and security cameras are working. All of that points to an Apple issue but my Apple devices all work on other WiFi networks (office and church) without issue.

iPhone 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max, iPad Pro all w/latest OS, Netgear AX3200 router w/latest firmware, former Apple Engineer (retired). This one has me stumped so far.

When I woke up early morning today and check my phone for the time I noticed my phone updated IoS automatically.

then i cant connect with the wifi connection and having issues using my phone.

its really annoying coz we have no choice not to update the software coz it automatically updates itself in the middle of the night.

the entire household members using Apple and experiencing the same issues. At first we were thinking our wifi might have issues but then I found out it’s because of the software 17.1.1 update.

hope this matters won’t prolong and resolve at earliest the earliest time.

Don't you think it's not relevant that this problem started right after we upgraded all our devices to iOS 17? I have already restarted the router as well as all our devices. I have also Deleted (ignore) the WiFi from all our devices and reconnected it from the beginning but the problem remains. I think people haven't noticed because they don't turn off their devices often. But we do it every day so it was easy to understand.

It is related to the iOS 17.1 update.

Once I updated my phone to 17.1, the phone won't connect to our WiFi router. I have tried all of the troubleshooting steps including disabling and then reenbling WiFi on the iPhone, power cycling the phone, power cyling the WiFi router, trying different encryption (WPA2 and WPA3), and moving to 2.4 GHz radio, then back to 5 GHz radio band, and some other changes on our WiFi router, but nothing works.

Also, ever since I upgraded our iPad to iOS 16.7.1, the iPad has also not been able to connect to our WiFi router.

Finally, a family member updated their iPhone to the most recent iOS, and now their iPhone can't connect to WiFi.

Apple, please fix this bug ASAP.

I came across this thread while looking for answers to a similar but different behavior since upgrading my iPhone 14 Pro to iOS 17.1 this week. (I waited until 17.1 to move from iOS 16.)

My iPhone continues to connect automatically to my home WiFi network but it stops actually working, usually overnight. All network activity then fails and times out while WiFi continues to work fine on all other devices. It takes some sequence of disabling/re-enabling WiFi on my phone (with/without airplane mode) to get it working again. A reboot also fixes it for a while. I had no trouble like this until iOS 17.

Just offering this as an FYI. Now I’ll continue looking to see if others are encountering this…

This is definitely a bit more complicated.

I started having this issue a week ago on my ipad (ios 14.2), then bought a new one (now has actually space for ios 17.1) still doesn't work. All none apple devices work perfectly, but I have absolutely no way to have wifi for even a second. I've been trying out other peoples advice, but nothing seems to work. (Restarting router, toggling wifi off and on, resetting network settings, restarting the device, forgetting the wifi, turning on airplane mode, changing the DNS, turning off private wifi, that stuff)

I'm getting really desperate. I just want my files to be safe and be able to upload them to places again.

literally what im experiencing right now after I updated my iPhone 13 pro max to ios 17.1.1. I cannot connect to wifi because it's "greyed out" (can't on/off) and sometimes Bluetooth does the same thing too (sometimes not) but it's been difficult to pair/connect my AirPods. I tried EVERYTHING, rebooting, resetting network setting, airplane mode hacks, disabling content & privacy restriction hack, disabling networking & wireless hack, and I even got to the point of factory resetting my phone AND STILL NOT WORKING!!! I know wifi is not the problem because my Mac is perfectly fine and can connect to my airpods.

I am sooo frustrated searching for a solution. My last resort is to go to Apple technician, hopefully not expensive. :(

APPLE FIX THIS!

The fellow who says it is not related to the update needs to reconsider his deductive abilities. Of course it is the update. It is just not affecting everyone, because not everyone has all the same apps and setups on their phone. This is what we call a glitch in the programs g world and an unintended consequence. There is some setup that is particular or some other app or network or whatever that has caused the issue with some but not all iphones. Regardless, apple needs to find the problem - incompatibility that has come up because of the update. I am sure that hundreds of thousands of people are having the problem and many may not have realized it or they just don’t go to this forum. It is rampant on the internet.
