ipod touch 7th generation deleting library music

with the OLDER , smaller, Ipods, it allowed you to SYNC music that you WANTED to have on the nano etc, but the TOUCH it just downloads the ENTIRE library and then says TOO MANY songs to download, and individual tracks from various albums then are missing or shaded ?

IT does NOT ALLOW ME TO MANUALLY DELETE ANY tunes on the ipod touch as they are always there , i did see a red minus on the touch and clicked delete, but the pictures of all albums still remain, and seems to keep downloading from itunes

FEEL like i should DELETE the MUSIC APP on it , and try to find a way to REINSTAL it but then i think it will again try to download the ENTIRE itunes library i have on my PC computer

SURELY WHEN IT IS CONNECTED to the PC itunes library their MUST BE A WAY TO REMOVE ANY music from the touch via the itunes library but the TICKS do NOTHING on the music touch area on itunes

iPod, iOS 15

All iPods can have only your choice of music added to them, including the 7th generation iPod Touch.

That's not how to do it.

What you do is:

  • connect the iPod to iTunes and once iTunes sees it, click the iPod icon at the top of the iTunes window:

The iTunes display shows you the Device/Settings/Summary pane (shown below):

the TICKS do NOTHING on the music touch area on itunes
  • note the option on the Summary pane to Sync only ticked songs and videos. This option must be on (the box needs to be ticked) for this to work. After turning it on, tap the Apply button. Only after doing this will further Syncs cause the correct effect (unticked songs are not added to the device*)

Next step (do not disconnect the iPod, we're not finished):

  • switch to the Device/Settings/Music pane (1.) (shown below):

  • make sure that Sync Music (2.) is ticked
  • so that you can select only what you want to be on your iPod, choose Selected playlists, artists, albums and genres (3.)
  • in the lists in the multiple section 4. panels that are now shown, select only the items that you want to be on your iPod. Scroll down each list section, to ensure that no additional items are selected lower down the lists
  • tap the Sync (or Apply) button in the lower right corner of the window (not shown in this screenshot, but in the same position as on the Summary pane)

That's it. Future Syncs will use the same options that you have chosen.

* Having set all these options, you now control what is on your iPod as follows:

    • any music added to an "item" (those items shown in 4, mentioned above) will be added to the iPod at the next Sync.
      • a new album, by an included artist - added to the iPod
      • a song, added to a playlist that is to be added to the iPod - the song will be added (at the next Sync)
      • etc.
    • any song that you untick in the main library will be removed from (or not added to) your iPod, even if the song is in an included sync-list (artist, album, playlist or genre)

Note that although you cannot choose individual songs in the section 4 lists, you can add them to a "single-song" playlist that you do select as an item to be synchronised

Finally - this does work. It's the method I use all the time, on two iPods. If you find this does not work, then check again to make sure you have followed the steps correctly. If that fails, post back with detail about which step fails to do what you expect. The random all-capital words will distract from the information you supply and will not be necessary.
