Iphone 11 with ios 17 does not connect with itunes

I have an iphone 11 that upgraded to ios 17.0.1. My iMac (early 2008) is running OS 10.11.6. I cannot get itunes to recognize my phone. Everything worked fine before the upgrade, and since it does not recognize the phone, I can't downgrade back to what I had before. I have done a factory reset on the phone, reinstalled itunes, switched cords, cleaned out USB ports with a toothpick (gently), and am about ready to sacrifice a lamb. Any help would be appreciated.

Mine is iphone 13 mini and has the same issue since the update to 17.3.1, not recognised by Windows iTunes.
