Passkeys and passwords

What id the difference between an Apple "passkey", "password" and "passcode"?

Following is some information that may help.


Apple use the term passcode for the device login for iPhones and iPads (i.e., to gain entry to the iPhone or iPad); for the same thing on a Mac they use the term password. See: Passcodes and passwords - Apple Support


The term password is also used for logging into your Apple ID (for iCloud, for this forum, and for other Apple services such as Apple Music, Apple TV, App Stores, etc.).


Passkeys are a new option that can replace passwords for Apple IDs. See: About the security of passkeys - Apple Support
