No Output/Input Sound

I have a MacBook Air and for the last few days when I use the volume there is no sound coming out and a small 'cancel' symbol that appears. I have tried everything from shutting off my Mac and turning it on, to killing the coreaudio, imputing commands on terminal, and nothing works. My bluetooth works fine which is so weird. I am not sure what else I can do.

Start with this...

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes or more.

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

You can Install an OS to an external drive, or move enough GBs of files off the internal to the external drive. What size is the Internal drive?
