iPhone 15 Pro Max Carplay Issues

I have a 2022 Wrangler with the 8.4" UConnect and I have issues with Carplay and the iPhone 15 Pro Max. I did not have the issue with the 13 Pro Max I traded in. But Carplay only seems to connect intermittently. About every other time I get in I have to unplug it and plug it back in to get to connect. Id assume that this is an iPhone issue since the 13 was fine. The 13 also had iOS 17 installed so wouldnt think it is a software issue either. Please advise. Thank you.

I am up to around $100 in trying cables and right now, it looks like I have 2 that work!

I have plugged in and unplugged and turned the engine off and restarted multiple times with each, and each time iPhone 15 Pro quickly launches Apple CarPlay in my 2022 Wrangler Rubicon (8.4” UConnect). This evening I have to drive a 40 mile round trip, so will put each to a longer test.

Both were purchased on Amazon.

Anker USB A to USB C Charger Cable [2 Pack, 6ft], 310 Type C Charger Cable Fast Charging Braided

Amazon Basics USB-C to USB-A 2.0 Fast Charger Cable,480Mbps Speed, USB-IF Certified, for Apple iPhone 15

2022 Wrangler Rubicon with the same 8.4” Uconnect (Made by Alpine). iPhone 15 Pro. iOS17.0.2. Spent 2 hours on the phone with Apple Support today. USB C to USB C cable that came with the iPhone doesn’t enable it to be seen for CarPlay, though it does charge. I have a 3 year old Mophie USB A to USB C cable that SOMETIMES enables CarPlay. However, if I turn the engine off, getting gas, then turn on again, CarPlay is no longer enabled.

I had an iPhone 14 Pro connected by an Apple USB A to lightning cable that worked flawlessly for a year in the Jeep.

Apple acted like they have had no reports of CarPlay problems with iPhone 15. Obviously, that is not true by reading the numerous posts in this Support Community. Also, suspiciously, on Sept. 20, Apple Store added an overpriced ($29) USB C to Lightning adapter and specifically lists it for use with Apple CarPlay! I have ordered it and hope it will resolve the issue (arrives in 2 days). Will post the outcome. And if it doesn’t work, I will be returning it.

I spent a week on this - and finally figured it out at least for my Jeep. If you forget all devices. And go and RE-PAIR your Bluetooth - then connect to USB CarPlay - THEN - go into (no clue why it's here) into settings - and then under paired devices, select projection manager - in that setting - there is a use CarPlay - I clicked it - and it all works - perfectly now. No matter my cable etc. for Jeep this setting wasn't here before. Hope this helps.

All,

I was experiencing the same issues with CarPlay in both my wife’s jeep grand Cherokee, as well as my Dodge ram for the longest time, despite doing the updates for my 15 pro max. The other day I went into the CarPlay settings and deleted all my vehicles out of my phone, then connected them to each of the vehicles, and it prompted me as if it was a new device and I haven’t had a problem since , like others, I was experiencing the ability to charge and intermediately being able to connect to CarPlay, but this has seem to resolve the issue.

Okay I found this post tonight after thinking I was the only one dying inside for the past two weeks. I have a 21 Jeep with Uconnect. I tried two cables and ended up sticking with the USB-C cable Apple supplied with the phone and then a cheap USB A to C adapter from Amazon. I truly believe this is will be fixed with an update down the road but For now I think I figured out a solution. I just went down to my jeep and for the past 20 mins I tried several different combos. Finally and with 100% success it seems that if you start the car and let u-connect fully boot up and then plug the phone in and it worked everytime. I typically always plug my phone in first and then start the car so I never thought to try this. I’m going to try again tomorrow but I think this might be a temporary fix. I tried it both locked and unlocked. 🤞iOS 17.0.3

Just want to tag onto the replies in case it helps somebody down the road. I had an issue where my CarPlay stopped working altogether. Initially, I thought it was the port in the car (2022 Subaru Legacy). I tried multiple cables and cars and my phone would basically charge for 3 seconds, then disconnect. This would continuously cycle in this manner until I unplugged my phone. It did work prior with no issues for a few months. When I would plug in my phone at home, it would charge as normal or connect to a PC as normal.

Ultimately, what I ended up doing to fix this problem without needing to purchase additional adapters or cables:

Checked for updates: Updated to 17.4

Go into Settings >> General >> CarPlay

Delete the vehicle that you are having the issue with (Forget This Car).

Go to Settings >> Face ID & Passcode - type in passkey

Scroll to bottom and turn on Accessories if it's not already. (Not sure if this actually did anything as it was never on prior, but I saw someone said it helped for them, so I did it anyway)

Finally, Settings >> Screen Time >> Content & Privacy Restrictions

Make sure this is either switched OFF or if it is ON, click Allowed Apps and make sure CarPlay is turned on.

After I performed these steps, I went back out to my car and CarPlay connected immediately with no issues! Hoping this helps someone in the future!

I have a 2023 Toyota Yaris Cross which only has USB A sockets and had the same trouble trying to make CarPLay work with my new iPhone 15ProMax (even though my daughter's iPhone 11 works fine grrr!).

I tried lead after lead after lead (!) ... then, on the off chance, for another purpose, I bought some USB A male to USB C female adaptors and - bingo - it worked ... CarPlay now works as soon as I connect my phone to the car using a 'normal' Apple USB C to USB C connecting lead ... this fix may not work for everyone but it works for me! Prices start at £5.99 for 3 - different/fancy colours cost more.

Apologies if this solution has already been posted - I didn't have time to read all the posts!

I have bought a USB C - A adapter and several USB C cables trying to get my IPhone 15 Pro CarPlay to work in my 2021 Lexus RX350, none have worked. So I have ordered a MagSafe Charger, https://a.co/d/4L3yQZQ, and a CarPlay wireless adapter, https://a.co/d/26CRVat, to eliminate the need for USB cables. I received the MagSafe charger first. So I hooked it up and when I use both the USB cable and the MagSafe charger at the same time, the RX350 recognizes my phone and CarPlay works!

My hypothesis is the RX 350 USB A port can’t supply enough electricity to the phone, so the CarPlay handshake sequence fails.

I found a fix I bought one of those small adapters that goes from usb A to C ( not the cable.) I then used the cable that came with the iPhone 15 pro and it worked. This worked on my 2021 Subaru crosstrek and 2023 Toyota Tacoma. Before all that was happening was that it would charge but the car not display the CarPlay.

my buddy tried one of those adapters that make the CarPlay wireless and it worked for him. He has a 2023 Honda civic I went with the usb A to usb C adapter because it was cheaper. I just but the highly recommended on amazon.

Ford Mustang here, having this exact same problem. I am noticing it is disconnecting mostly when I wiggle the base of the USB-C, not the phone or the base of the USB connection to the car. What has been working for me (so far) is a cord that has the BASE of the USB-C cord a bit more secured, like this: USB-C to USB A Cable

I hope this helps in the long run but has been helpful so far.

----- Apple Lightning to USB - C Adapter DOES NOT FIX the problem -----

Adapter arrived from Apple 30 minutes ago.

First try. Apple USB C to Lightning able to the adapter USB C to iPhone 15 Pro. CarPlay saw the phone for a moment. Turned the engine off and restarted. No more CarPlay connection.

Second try. Apple USB A to Lightning to the adapter USB C to iPhone 15 Pro. CarPlay connected. Apple Tech Support called me during this trial and 3 minutes into the call, CarPlay disconnected!!! Would not connect to CarPlay again.

Returning the useless $29 adapter to Apple.

Have this issue with a 2020 Hyundai Tucson (iPhone 15 Pro Max). Spent a couple hours on the phone with Apple a month ago. I have to plug the phone in at least twice before CarPlay activates (the phone always charges 100% of the time, it just won’t activate CarPlay). I’ve tried an Apple USB-A to USB-C cable. I’ve tried an Apple lightning cable with an Apple lightning to USB-C adapter. I have an Anker USB-A to USB-C cable. Nothing makes a difference. Apple looked at my logs, ran their diagnostics, and concluded that my phone was 100% behaving normally and there was nothing wrong with the phone. They suggested the problem was with the Hyundai. Except I also have a 2003 Honda CRV with a Sony aftermarket head unit with CarPlay and I have the exact same problem in that car. Have to plug the phone in twice to get Crpmay to activate. This does not happen EVER to my wife’s iPhone 14 Plus with iOS 17. It’s literally impossible for this to be anything but a hardware issue. I’m sure it can be fixed with a software update but it’d be nice if Apple would at least acknowledge there’s a problem.
