iPhone 15 Pro Max Carplay Issues

I have a 2022 Wrangler with the 8.4" UConnect and I have issues with Carplay and the iPhone 15 Pro Max. I did not have the issue with the 13 Pro Max I traded in. But Carplay only seems to connect intermittently. About every other time I get in I have to unplug it and plug it back in to get to connect. Id assume that this is an iPhone issue since the 13 was fine. The 13 also had iOS 17 installed so wouldnt think it is a software issue either. Please advise. Thank you.

2019 Ram 2500 and iPhone 15 pro. I have to plug it in several times to get CarPlay to work. All the iPhones I have had the past few years and my wife's and daughter's phones work fine. I even bought different cables to try. It is just something with the iPhone 15 Pro. Please help.

All,

I was experiencing the same issues with CarPlay in both my wife’s jeep grand Cherokee, as well as my Dodge ram for the longest time, despite doing the updates for my 15 pro max. The other day I went into the CarPlay settings and deleted all my vehicles out of my phone, then connected them to each of the vehicles, and it prompted me as if it was a new device and I haven’t had a problem since , like others, I was experiencing the ability to charge and intermediately being able to connect to CarPlay, but this has seem to resolve the issue.

2022 Wrangler Rubicon with the same 8.4” Uconnect (Made by Alpine). iPhone 15 Pro. iOS17.0.2. Spent 2 hours on the phone with Apple Support today. USB C to USB C cable that came with the iPhone doesn’t enable it to be seen for CarPlay, though it does charge. I have a 3 year old Mophie USB A to USB C cable that SOMETIMES enables CarPlay. However, if I turn the engine off, getting gas, then turn on again, CarPlay is no longer enabled.

I had an iPhone 14 Pro connected by an Apple USB A to lightning cable that worked flawlessly for a year in the Jeep.

Apple acted like they have had no reports of CarPlay problems with iPhone 15. Obviously, that is not true by reading the numerous posts in this Support Community. Also, suspiciously, on Sept. 20, Apple Store added an overpriced ($29) USB C to Lightning adapter and specifically lists it for use with Apple CarPlay! I have ordered it and hope it will resolve the issue (arrives in 2 days). Will post the outcome. And if it doesn’t work, I will be returning it.

----- Apple Lightning to USB - C Adapter DOES NOT FIX the problem -----

Adapter arrived from Apple 30 minutes ago.

First try. Apple USB C to Lightning able to the adapter USB C to iPhone 15 Pro. CarPlay saw the phone for a moment. Turned the engine off and restarted. No more CarPlay connection.

Second try. Apple USB A to Lightning to the adapter USB C to iPhone 15 Pro. CarPlay connected. Apple Tech Support called me during this trial and 3 minutes into the call, CarPlay disconnected!!! Would not connect to CarPlay again.

Returning the useless $29 adapter to Apple.

Definitely let us know if it works. It’s sad if they gave us a cable that would not function for everything needed. However, I have also tried a usb c 3.1 v2 10g cable and that didn’t help with the fact I have to try to plug it in several times. I have seen people complaining here, Reddit and macrumors about this issue so them saying they have no clue is BS.

That sucks. Well, at least you can return it. I had to send logs to Apple today about it not working. I was so happy when I plugged it in it failed lol. Was thinking it would be my luck to plug it in and this time CarPlay came right up lol. I found a post that mentioned accessories while locked being turned off could cause the issue. I turned mine on so gonna see if that helps at all.

Tested the cables (old Apple usb-c, new one that came with the phone, new 2m Apple one and one non-Apple USB-C that sat unused in my house that is for high data transport and charging) in my 2022 Buick Enclave. All worked with no issues. I personally rarely use the ports in my car because I have an OEM wireless charging pad and wireless CarPlay but keep cables in the car just in case someone else needs to charge their device in either the USB-C or USB-A ports. Not sure what the issue for those of you having problems may be but it’s clearly not a universal problem or everyone no matter what would be experiencing it. Numerous things could be the problem…the ports in the car, the head units, an update for the head unit may be needed which the manufacturer would need to address…an issue with iOS 17…etc. But this happens every time a new iPhone and iOS is released. A flood of threads on here pretty much echoing the exact same issues you all are having. But it’s always not universal (I have never had an issue in any of our vehicles…most were strictly wired CarPlay and charging. Various brands through the years…one with an aftermarket head unit). Sometimes it was the cables used (in the past in some cars if you were using a 3rd party non-MFi cable you had issues. Some cars it was an update needed from the manufacturer for the radio. Some cars the actual ports were the problem…I think due to low power but I can’t recall). So it’s possible that the problem is not Apple. Hopefully y’all find a fix. Best case scenario would be that it’s just an iOS update that can fix things or your manufacturer releases an update that you can install OTA or via SD card without needing to have the service dept do it. In the meantime if you haven’t reported it to Apple already do so. Contact CS for support (even if you think it won’t work you still need to try the troubleshooting to eliminate doubt). Contact the manufacturer also. Check user forums for your vehicle to see what the buzz is (there will absolutely be chatter because realistically there will be owners that use an iPhone somewhere in the masses).
