iPhone 15 Pro Max Carplay Issues

I have a 2022 Wrangler with the 8.4" UConnect and I have issues with Carplay and the iPhone 15 Pro Max. I did not have the issue with the 13 Pro Max I traded in. But Carplay only seems to connect intermittently. About every other time I get in I have to unplug it and plug it back in to get to connect. Id assume that this is an iPhone issue since the 13 was fine. The 13 also had iOS 17 installed so wouldnt think it is a software issue either. Please advise. Thank you.

I am up to around $100 in trying cables and right now, it looks like I have 2 that work!

I have plugged in and unplugged and turned the engine off and restarted multiple times with each, and each time iPhone 15 Pro quickly launches Apple CarPlay in my 2022 Wrangler Rubicon (8.4” UConnect). This evening I have to drive a 40 mile round trip, so will put each to a longer test.

Both were purchased on Amazon.

Anker USB A to USB C Charger Cable [2 Pack, 6ft], 310 Type C Charger Cable Fast Charging Braided

Amazon Basics USB-C to USB-A 2.0 Fast Charger Cable,480Mbps Speed, USB-IF Certified, for Apple iPhone 15

Ive already contacted Apple myself. Had to send them logs today. However, I am leaning more toward its a device issue vs a software issue. Others, like yourself, are saying they do not have a problem. If it was an OS issue, it "shouldn't" work with the 13 and 14 like it does etc. I also do not think its a vehicle port issue being I used the exact same port prior to upgrading. For the most part, the biggest change was the device. I personally hope they come up with something because other than the drama of getting Carplay to function, I like the 15PM. Id rather not go back to my 13 but its leaning more toward that as the says pass without a resolution.

Here is the summary Apple…

It seems to be happening to a ton of ppl. I’m seeing mostly jeeps, rams, so let’s say dodge ram jeep (this whole family of brands). It could be more but definitely see a pattern of these vehicles. It’s definitely on apples end and I believe it is software. Ppl have tried different cords, different usb types (c and a). No one has found a good fix. I had it working, turned my car off, left the phone in the weathertech cup holder with the cord connected, turned it back on and it did not connect. I feel like if it was hardware and I had it working, then turning the car on and off wouldn’t disrupt the hardware connection. So hopefully I am right and it’s software but it’s not just you everyone. APPLE, please fix.

I am also having this issue on my 2021 Ram 1500 with the 12” display. It’s not the cords. It’s 109% the iPhone. I usually have to connect several times for CarPlay to engage. Once up, it’s solid. But if I turn off them on the car (not disconnecting the cord) it usually won’t reconnect…requiring me to manually disconnect and try again.

I have similar issue with Kia Carnival (2023; CarPlay updated last month by dealership) and my iPhone 15 Pro except I haven't been able to connect AT ALL. Used the Apple-supplied USB-C cable first and then every USB-C cable I had in the house (about 12 different ones) and no luck.

iPhone 13 Pro with lightning adapter works fine .... iPhone 15 "malicious compliance" USB-C just refuses to play ball.

The amount of connectivity issues being reported since the introduction of Apple's USB-C adapter on the iPhone is absolutely ridiculous. It needs to be addressed properly.

I’m having the same issue with my 2019 Jeep Cherokee. If I was connected to Uconnect, CarPlay wouldn’t even pop up. If I unpair Uconnect, car play will work for a few mins then drop. Uconnect can’t read or respond to texts after 17.0.3 update either. On a call tonight the screen froze and the person I was talking to couldn’t hear me. I’ve tried Anker USB A to USB C cables, I bought the adapter for lighting to usb c…none work. My dad’s XR connected to my car quick with no issues. Definitely think it’s something with the 15PM’s, I had no issues with my 12PM. Super frustrated.
