AirPods Pro 2 issue with Delta IFE

Greetings,

I'm having an issue with AirPods Pro 2 when being used with Delta Air Lines IFE. I've been using the 1st gen Pro's with a bluetooth transmitter on Delta flights for a couple years and never had a problem. The first time I took the 2nd gen on a flight they didn't work at all, I couldn't hear anything being played on the IFE. I thought my transmitter went out so I tried the 1st gen (I'm glad I had them with me) and they worked fine. I paired the 2nd gen back to my phone and they worked fine. When I got home I pulled out the Lightning-to-headphone jack adapter, plugged in the bluetooth transmitter and paired the 2nd gen, worked just fine. So at this point I ruled out the transmitter and headphones as being the issue, but I really wanted to use the 2nd gen when flying so I purchased a newer bluetooth transmitter with the latest BT specs. The next time I flew I paired the 2nd gen to the new transmitter and still nothing. I turned the IFE volume all the way up and I could just barely hear what was playing but the volume was still so low that it wasn't usable. I connected my 1st gen and they worked just fine. So, what is going on with the 2nd gen and Delta IFE? I've spent hours troubleshooting, connecting the bluetooth adapters to different devices with headphones jacks, re-pairing over and over again. Everything works just as it should unless I'm trying to use them with Delta IFE. Does anyone have any thoughts on what the issue might be or ideas to get them working? I'll be on a United flight in a couple weeks, it's a new 737 Max 9 so it should have IFE, I'll be curious to see if they work.

Hey ggarthe,

Given the steps you've already taken, the first thing we'd recommend is to confirm if this problem persists across the AirPods various modes: Transparency, Active Noise Cancellation, Adaptive and Off.

We'd also recommend double checking the Adaptive Audio setting specifically with their system, toggle them off one by one to isolate if the issue persists.

If you encounter further issues beyond that and they work properly with your other Apple devices, we'd recommend contacting Delta to report on the issue.

Cheers!

Found the fix for it - here are the steps:

1) Connect airpods pro 2 to iphone first and make sure to turn off personalized volume, conversational awareness and loud sound reduction. You can keep noise cancellation on.

2) Now disconnect from iphone

3) Connect to BT transmitter

Should work - at least it did on one of my BT transmitters.

Definitely an Airpods Pro 2 issue.

This is not just Delta IFE though, the problem is with the Airpods Pro 2, it doesn't work with bluetooth transmitter connected to PC or laptop either!

I have tried 2 different ones - thought it is the bluetooth transmitter initially.

However, it is NOT the transmitter. Airpods Pro older version works. Also Bose connects to the BT transmitter and works as well.

Definitely something going on with Airpods Pro 2 (with USB-C). Now trying to update firmware and will report.
