Screen Mirroring from MacBook Pro (16", M2, 2003) to iPad Pro (12.9", 5th Gen) Freezes on iPad

Using the screen mirroring feature to extend my MacBook display to my iPad works brilliantly, until it doesn't. It just freezes - I can disconnect and reconnect immediately, but this is such a pain to keep doing. I saw a similar question asked last year with the rather unhelpful response that "it's a new feature, glitches should be expected" but as the feature is now a year old - is there actually a useful fix for this yet ? It's a brilliant feature _if it works_ as it's a portable extension monitor, but as it is, it is basically unusable ...

Thanks !

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 13.6

Make sure you don't miss any steps, and quit all open apps on the iPad before you start.
