contact photo and poster with Dual sim

How does one enable Contact Photo and Poster in iOS 17 when you have dual sim? There are 2 phone numbers associated with the same apple ID?

Hi vkwan,

Looking at this section of the User Guide page we shared, it looks that the Contact Poster is already enabled, as "Contacts Only" means only your contacts will receive the Contact Poster.

Add or edit your photo and poster
You can set a photo and poster to automatically display when you call or message others. To set or edit your contact photo and poster:
1. Open the Contacts app .
2. Tap My Card at the top, then tap Contact Photo & Poster.
3. (Optionally) Tap Name, then enter your first and last name as you want it to appear to others, then tap Edit to pick a poster or create a new one.
4. Scroll to the bottom and turn on Name & Photo Sharing to start sharing your contact photo and poster with others.
5. You can choose to share automatically with Contacts Only, or select Always Ask to be prompted before your name, photo, and poster are shared with anyone you’re communicating with.

Add or edit your contact info and photo on iPhone - Apple Support

By using the same Apple ID on both iPhones, the Contact Poster info is the same for both.

Have you had a chance to test this yet? Best way to determine that the Contact tPoster is working as expected.

Take care!

Hello vkwan,

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities. You can set up your contact card using multiple numbers if needed using the following from Add or edit your contact info and photo on iPhone - Apple Support.

"Complete or edit My Card

Use My Card in the Contacts app to easily share your information with others.

  1. Open the Contacts app .
  2. Tap My Card at the top, then tap edit.
  3. Enter your contact information.
  4. Contacts suggests addresses and phone numbers to help you set up My Card."

Then, choose the number which you would like to use to make and receive calls and messages. The following two sections come from Using Dual SIM with an eSIM - Apple Support which has further details if needed.

"Let your iPhone remember which number to use

When you call one of your contacts, you don't need to choose which number to use every time. By default, your iPhone uses the same number that you used the last time you called that contact. If you haven't called that contact, your iPhone uses your default number. You can also specify which number to use for your calls with a contact. Follow these steps:

  1. Tap the contact.
  2. Tap Preferred Cellular Plan.
  3. Tap the number you want to use with that contact."

"Choose a number before you send an iMessage or SMS/MMS message

  1. Open Messages.
  2. Tap the New button, in the upper-right corner of the screen.
  3. Enter your contact's name.
  4. Tap the current phone number.
  5. Tap the number you want to use."

Take care.

Hi Faith185

Thanks for the reply and sorry for delayed response. Sorry I know i posted this as when i'm using Dual sim, but i guess i should have posted it in my real context. I have two phones, one for work and one personal and i prefer to keep 2 separate phones (wanna keep my work stuff on my work phone only). But I do want to use the same Apple ID so that i can easily use my AirPods to work on both devices.

If i am using the same AppleID, and I go into my Contacts App and then my card, the Contact Photo & Poster cannot be clicked, it says "Contacts Only". Does that mean its enabled? I can go and edit and change pictures but does it mean its enabled? This behaviour is the same on both phones. But once I change the appleID so that each phone has a different ID, then i am able to click on the Contact Photo & poster and have a few other options which i don't recall at the moment.

Hi Faith185 (or anyone else that is/has looked into this),

I've finally upgraded to iOS17 and really like the contact card feature - namely the poster, etc that pops up when I call.

My setup is slightly differnt to OPs - I am using a dual sim setup.. one profile for work and one for personal.

What I'd love to be able to do is automatically share one contact card/poster with my work contacts - i.e. have my work logo/branding etc show up when I dial out from my work profile and a different card/poster show up when i dial out via my personal profile.

Any way to enable this?

Thanks in advance :)

Hi!

I use DUAL SIm on my Iphone XR (one is an E-Sim) and I still struggle with the Contacposter. I created one, but it still doesn't show when I call my contacts. It doesn't show when I use my Business numer (Primary SIM) and it doesn't show on their screens when I call with my Private Number (E-Sim).

Do I do something wrong or is this just not possible to use the contactposter when you are using two numbers?

Thank you!
