Apple Watch Battery Drain Issues after Update

It must be coming from the phone. I sent mine in and they said they couldn’t duplicate the problem. My phone wasn’t present and it started losing battery quickly when I got it back. I did the reset watch and repair, plus turned off the noise app. It’s back to normal after that.

So update I was seeing the watch drain with OS 9 so with nothing else to try updated to latest OS on watch and phone 14 ProMax and now my watch is back to normal mostly with 40 to 50% charge left. So guessing point release solved it.

Yes. I had the same problem for a week. I kept a close eye on it and the watch was definitely draining the battery faster than before the update. There was the restart after the update and I left it at that. That's when I first noticed the quicker drop in power during the day. I wear my watch at night and the next I would get wake up and it was a few percentage points below from where I had started before I did my update. I turned off the watch and restarted and the problem stayed with me. Finally after several more days I did another shut down and restart. Now my watch is running how it used to run before the update. Right now I'm okay with it.

This new update is a disaster. My 1 year old Mac Pro is glitching like crazy. My Phone keeps freezing when using the camera, and my Apple watch battery dies way too fast. I was able to have a full charge and then go to sleep with it at night. Now, it's not even 5 pm I have 40% left. Also, I can't connect to my Peleton Bike, App, or Guide. It tells me wifi is not found! Apple, please fix all of it!

Sounds like you have Optimised Battery Charging enabled. This means the watch will only charge to 80% until it learns your usage pattern. Supposed to save the battery wear. When you put it on charge touch the circle on the screen. If it says “charge to full now” then do so and it will override it.

Have been having the same battery drain issues as everyone else on the thread. Just checked and 10.1 is available to me (in Canada). Am installing as I write this so will see if that fixes the issue (no mention of this problem being fixed in the notes with 10.1 however).

I had the same issues when I did the update. I finally looked at my Background App Refresh settings on my watch and saw that EVERY app was turned on. Once I turned the apps off that I did not want to be refreshed, my battery life went back to normal. I have had my watch on all day and the battery level is at 73%.

But having EVERY app do background refresh didn’t drain the battery before the update?

I other words, the update has forced you to diminish the functionality of your watch in order to get back to normal battery life?

That kind of sucks, doesn’t it?

So, you’re saying that the OS update did this without notifying the user?

Anyone else notice this?

All but a handful were ON when I checked my wife’s watch after the update, but she was unable to tell me whether or not she had ever changed those settings.

On my own Ultra1 the Background app refresh settings were not altered by the OS update.

Series 7 here. 10.1 killed it. Battery drains in a few hours. Did a reboot but that still its draining fast. Shut off background refresh but it doesn’t seem to have helped. Guess I’m going to have to wait for the next update, leave it on the charger. It’s useless right now.

Well, about a week ago, had a battery drain on a series 7 with the early version of 10.1 and 17.1 that made that watch useless. Upgraded to Series 9, same deal on a brand new watch. Did all troubleshooting imaginable and suggested. Returned that series 9. Had all programming deleted from phone, including picks. Could not restore, however, until official version of 17.1 was released. Decided to try another new Series 9 and was relieved that 10.1 was not downloaded in it. Used watch and phone with older version, and watch was amazing for a week. Downloaded the official release of the newest versions last night, and I’m back to square one all over again. Plus, even paired, new watch and watch app on phone no longer communicate, at least on faces. New watch faces make it to app, but never the actual watch, even when I tap the set as watch face button on the app. Can someone explain why Apple would create an amazing piece of tech, then turn it into nothing but an overly expensive paper weight by creating a software upload this bad? Thinking of leaving Apple a dissatisfied customer. And if I do, I’ll never come back because my faith in Apple to deliver a reliable product worth owning is close to being permanently extinguished.

Had a perfectly functioning series 9 before these updates. Charged it in the morning and, after a 10 hour work shift, still had a charge of 50 to 70 percent. After this **** download, my watch once again went from 100% to 0% in less than 3 hours. This is unquestionably a software issue. I want a direct line to whoever in Apple is responsible for this, and I want them unemployed NOW! Someone going to answer for this, and that’s a promise.

Mine wouldn’t charge properly had to turn it off wait the put charger to it and woke up about 5 and it had fully charged , put it on and fell back sleep then woke up at 10 and it was like 32 % it never drops that low even where it all night long , would hate to think how quick it would die doing a workout

Apparently Apple does not even acknowledge that this an issue, according to the descriptions here of the interactions people have had both in in-person tech support appointments and virtual help sessions. They seem to be approaching each individual case as an isolated event that they want to blame on hardware error or how users have installed or use apps — anything other than accepting responsibility for causing these issues via the most recent OS updates.

I am also having this problem, even with the new 10.1 update.

My battery health is 97%, and it used to last twelve hours easily. Now, it hits 20% battery left after 6-7 hours.

I removed all unused apps and turned off the background refresh without luck.
