Battery charging status on WatchOS 10.0

In previous versions of watchOS when we put Apple watch on charging it was very easy to see the charge status. We just need to tap the screen and graphical charge status use to visible. Now with watchOS 10.0 update, to see the charge status while on charging, first we have to unlock the watch but entering the passcode, then press the side button to see quick settings, then we can see the % charge. This is very cumbersome and not at all user friendly. Is there a way to go back to previous setting so that I can see charge status as a green circle?

Seems unnecessarily secretive to me! Although 99% of the time, when my watch is on the charger, I find it much more convenient to just swipe left on my phone homescreen and check the state of charge from there. It doesn't show a number, but it's easy to gauge within a few percentage points, which is as good as number for all practical purposes, while satisfying some product designer's fetish, presumably.
