My colors are off, Type is faint, washed out and hard to read, Settings are acting weird such as bringing up finder looks strange and hard to use. Frankly every area looks different often with blanks where I would need to select something. I am no geek. I use a Mac because it does not act up. Help!

You may try first checking to see if any accessibility settings have been enabled for the display. This can be found within System Settings > Accessibility > Display, and see if any of the switches here are turned on. If so, try disabling them to see if that has helped out.
Starting the Mac up in safe mode can help rule out various software items from being the cause: Use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support
