iPhone 15 Prox Max USB-C to HDMI Issue

So I currently have an Anker USB-C to HDMI Adapter (model AK-A83120A1) that I have been using with an iPad Pro 11-inch (1st generation). It works great with the iPad so I know the Anker adapter and the HDMI cable are working. However, when I hook it up to my iPhone 15 Pro Max, it acts like the connection is being established but there is never anything that actually shows up on the different TVs and monitors that I have hooked it up to thus far. For grins, I tried several different HDMI cables and had no luck either. Here are the screenshots of what shows on my iPhone when I plug it in. So it does appear that it is connected. Shortly after plugging it in, the blue Dock Connector icon no longer shows in the dynamic island but the "Dock Connector" status still shows from the control center.

I also just unpacked my iPhone 15 Pro just to be disappointed when realizing nothing gets displayed on my Samsung TV when using a direct usb-c to hdmi cable.

Not sure how this makes any sense but my 15pro Max is having the same trouble everyone else seems to be having using the Apple hdmi dock. my old iPhone12 worked fine with the older hdmi dock for streaming to this tv. I decided to try the new phone and connector on an older Sony tv I have in another room, guess what, it freaking works!!! But it won’t work on my newer TV, not sure how this info can help here my phone is updated and I just tested it again on the old and new tv same issue. But it does work sound and picture on the older tv through HDMI.

Glad that I'm not the only one. I am curious if the Apple branded USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter (MUF82AM/A) currently works. I won't be very happy if Apple is using a proprietary Display Port Alternate Mode instead of the DisplayPort Alternate Mode primary used with the USB-C standard. (but that wouldn't surprise me since they didn't seem too thrilled about going to USB-C in the first place)

Hopefully, the next iOS 17 update fixes this issue. 🤞

I had the same issue with my Apple HDMI adaptor (purchased for iPad Pro) as well as a 3rd party SD card adaptor (USBC). It was not displaying using the iPhone 15 Pro Max. After discussing the issue with Apple Support, he asked me to try turning off the phone and turning i back on. The iPhone 15 Pro Max then worked with the 2020 USBc HDMI adaptor and my 3rd party SD card adaptor.

I am not saying it will work for all people but it is worth a try to just turn the phone off and back on again

Thanks for creating this thread and reporting your issues with that Anker HDMI adapter Joshua! I have the exact same model dongle from Anker and can confirm I have the same issue. I am running iOS 17.1.2 and like you have tried multiple cables and displays with no luck. I was able to get it to work with another USB C dock that I used for my M2 MacBook Air, but as for this Anker adapter, no luck either. 🫤

I also tried the “low power mode” someone else suggested no luck and I even tried the exact same hdmi cord from to the other tv just for fun. No luck!!! But that cable and hdmi dock works on the older tv. It must be something with the newer TVs and mine isn’t even that new at least 6-8 years old. But the TV it does work on is a Sony plasma about 15 years old.

It's Jan 8, 2023 and I am on version 17.2.1. I use a USBC to HMDI out on my Iphone 15 promax. When I initially got the bought phone, there was no letterboxing and instead it was playing properly on the external display using Youtube, Amazon Prime Video, and Netflix. However within the last week, YouTube and Amazon Prime Video both have the letterboxing issue while Netflix does not. Thus, Netflix continues to work properly and the other apps do not display full screen on the external display. I have spoken with Apple Tech Support and this issue is being escalated to engineering and I hope to have a resolution soon. If anyone knows how to solve this otherwise, please let me know.
