having difficulties UPDATING my iPhone. It is connected to my Mac however, the Apple icon flashes on and off.

This morning my iPhone 7 Apple icon flickered so I held in the 2 side buttons to restart it when a SUPPORT.APPLE.COM/IPHONE/RESTORE appeared. I followed the directions to connect the iPhone to my Mac and tried to do an update however, the Apple icon flashes on and off. Any suggestions?
