Cancelling a trade-in (iPhone) using Apple Card

I've read how easy to cancel a trade-in for Apple items. However, my question as follows.

I may have decided on keeping my iPhone 12 Pro Max as a trade-in for an iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Currently, order processing with an arrival date between 10/17-10/24/23.

However, I applied and used Apple Card for monthly payments at 0%.

I'm aware how to cancel an Apple trade-in in general. How do I let Apple Card or Apple know ?

Planning to pass on iPhone 12 to a family member.

Bottom line, how will Apple Card reflect the increase value (payment) ? If you understand my point.

When should I expect Apple Card be "charged" ? When order placed 9/17 or when product actually ships ?

Hopefully, one of you out there as answer and how to resolve it. Thanks for any feedback.

Your Apple Card should be charged just before the item ships.

With trades, the card is charged for the full price when the new phone ships and then credited for the trade after the trade is received and approved.

You cancel the trade simply by not sending it in.

Can I cancel a trade-in?

If you haven’t dropped off or shipped your device yet, you can cancel your trade-in by simply keeping your device.

If you’ve already sent us your device, the trade-in can’t be cancelled. However, if you receive a lower revised trade-in value after we inspect your device, you can choose to reject it.

If you buy a new device online with a trade-in and return the new device, your trade-in will be cancelled automatically and we’ll return your trade-in device.

When I did it the instant credit wasn't yet in existence but I suspect the end result is the same (i.e., that they' reverse the instant credit when the trade doesn't show up in the designated time). If you are concerned and don't want to wait to see how it is handled you may want to call Apple Sale Support to see what they say: 1-800-MY-APPLE.

Thanks FoxFifth for a lucid answer.

I wasn't going to send my trade-in (still evaluating situation) phone until new one received and data transferred.

Only reason I'm asking is day I "reserved" iPhone 15 Pro Max 1TB, it gave me an instant credit of $450 (iPhone12) leaving a balance around $1149.

Thinking it was an ironclad agreement I had to turn in my iPhone 12.

I did read you don't send in trade-in iPhone thereby cancelling trade-in.

It's the Apple Card situation I was not clear about. Obviously, this makes it easier to decide what to do.

I do know you have a 14 days window for returning iPhone in. Luckily, I have an Apple store couple miles away.

Any additional comments please let me know.

Thanks again FoxFifth.

Once the excitement at my local store dies down, I'll visit them for answers.

In a way, I don't mind paying the extra dollars for the iPhone 15 without a trade-in.

I would still have on hand my iPhone 12 Pro Max 512gb that I paid as much for the 15.

It's a shame trade-in value not greater depending on storage. That is, paying extra more more storage space.

Yet an iPhone 12 Pro Max 128gb trade-in gets the same amount as an iPhone 12 Pro Max 512gb.

Apple needs to look into it if not already factored in.
