"iCloud Passwords" Chrome Extension: Overlapping Popups

I'm using Apple's "iCloud Passwords" Chrome extension. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/icloud-passwords/pejdijmoenmkgeppbflobdenhhabjlaj

When I click on a password field to try to autofill the password, I'm finding that both Chrome's own password autofill pops up and Apple's password autofill appears. (I tried including a screenshot, but I got an error message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted.")

Even worse, Chrome's pop-up appears on top of Apple's pop up, and there doesn't appear to be a way to make Chrome's pop-up go away without also getting rid of Apple's pop up.

How do I fix this? I want to use iCloud Passwords for everything.

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.14

I Googled around and found that users of the 1Password Chrome extension have a similar issue. 1Password recommends turning off the built-in password manager in your browser.

In practice, the only way to do that is to manually transfer each password from Chrome to iCloud, then manually delete each password from Chrome.
