Disable Caps Lock Indicator on macOS Sonoma

A feature has been added to macOS Sonoma - the onscreen caps lock indicator.

While i am sure this may be useful for some, for me it is not, is there any way to disable it?

This feature is not useful for most users. Some of us use Caps Lock for the following reasons: 1) while playing games, 2) writing code, 3) writing scripts or other documents that will require the function. APPLE PLEASE REMOVE THIS ANNOYING FEATURE AS THIS DOES NOT HELP WHEN THERE IS ALREADY A LIGHT ON THE KEYBOARD!!!!!!!!!

This "feature" is just annoying, by making it compulsory, it's even more overbearing. Why would the designer think a MacBook user should be reminded for turning the caps all the time?

There's already a lot of people addressing the issue, and I would like to put one more point on it, the caps lock indictor is just euro-centric, or Roman alphabet centric. As a Chinese and English typer, the caps lock allow us to shift between typing roman alphabet and Chinese, without shifting the keyboard language, it's nothing to do with whether or not we use Caps or shift to type Caps. Some might have no issue with the new feature as they don't need to type non roman alphabet language. For user like us, the indicator is a dismissive feature, that ignore typing habits of you don't know how many people.

Apple should make this feature optional-- who need an annoying arrow to remind them they turn the locks on.

This is seriously a very annoying feature. I can't imagine why someone would think making this a default setting was a good idea. I wasted a lot of time in an application I was using trying to figure out what the blue arrow was, only to later discover it's my Mac. Now I have to waste more time trying to figure out how to disable it.

In the picture below you can see how the blue arrow obstructs my view. In this instance I was aligning text to the column, and this annoying blue arrow was in my view and distracting me constantly.

This “helper” icon is apparently meant for when someone accidentally turns on caps lock. And what about those who use caps lock intentionally? It could have been added in preferences for those who want it. Instead, the rest of us who intentionally use caps lock have to get through our work every day with that intrusive blue helper icon and no way to get rid of it. Having to run a terminal command may be helpful for some who want to risk it, but it is not a fix. It's a workaround that lets Apple off the hook for an ill-conceived idea that wasn't thought through. It should be made an option in preferences for those who want it, not forced on the rest of us who don’t.

Apple: PLEASE add a default / toggle switch in your next update to remove this constant poke in the eye. Better yet, just remove it. Forever.

I have certainly given them feedback about this feature. I think it's great.

Yes. Not everyone has the same preferences. That is why this helpful/irritating feature should be a preference, not something forced on everyone.

Note that they will not reply.

In the end, though, only one preference is going to be implemented. And that's Apple. Apple, historically, prefers not to make everything user selectable.

Goto the utilities folder in your applications directory. Open terminal copy and paste the first part of what he wrote and hit enter.

sudo mkdir -p /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain

Type the passcode for your Mac and hit enter. Then copy and paste the second part and hit enter.

sudo /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "Add 'redesigned_text_cursor:Enabled' bool false" /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain/UIKit.plist

It will say creating a directory or something like that but it will look like nothing happened. Reboot and BYE BYE ICON!

I strongly suspected that a solution of this sort, a real solution, existed. Thank you you for finding it and posting the exact steps in terminal.

For readers who have not used Terminal before, only and always select-copy-paste code such as yochees provides into Terminal. Use the keyboard to enter your password, but do not try to type in commands.
