ios17 iCloud photos problems between phone and mac...!

I upgraded to ios17 yesterday and then this morning I get the message my phone storage is full.

Photos now using 1.2TB on my iphone. I used iCloud for photos and it's worked fine for a long

time.

I maintain my full overall photo library and edits on Photos on my Mac, and then photos taken on my phone

appear on my mac photo library and I edit and save into albums etc…

It seems somehow (without me changing anything) under ios17 the phone downloaded my entire Mac

photo libbary (including DSLR Raw pictures, long GoPro videos and more, and kept going until my phone was full, throwing errors).

So after a ton ofGoogling, trying as many different settings as I can think of, nothing working so my question is this:

  • How do I go back to a setup whereby all the photos from my phone appear on my mac but I DO NOT pull down my entire Mac photo library on my phone?

  • Alternatively if there's a way to have either l low res or pull in real time photos on my mac library on my phone, that would be fine also - but I don't full everything pulled down fully on my phone.

I would really really appreciate any help here - thank you so much!

Hello dcmccall,

Thank you for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. Based on the information you provided, we suggest making sure that the feature of Optimized iPhone Storage is selected for Photos in Settings > Photos > Optimize iPhone Storage. This will help increase the storage space on your iPhone, along with replacing the existing photos on your iPhone with smaller, device-sized version. Full resolution versions can be downloaded from iCloud.

If you need additional assistance with your photos, we suggest to contact Apple Support. You can contact them by using this link here: Get Support

Best regards.
