How to prevent Siri from making calls in error

Siri is constantly misunderstanding my requests ( eg- skip song) and calls someone in my contacts list instead.

I went back to through the threads here and it seems this has been a problem for many years.

I am a native English speaker and Siri continues to misinterpret my requests and calls random people at the worst times.

About to turn off Siri completely unless there is an option to prevent Siri from making calls?

I don’t see it under Siri Phone settings

thanks for any help!

@Tony.Collins Since your post is from a while back, maybe the guy wants to help other people by using your solution.

But here's what helped me: If you have only one phone number listed for your contacts, create a second number under work, for example, 888-888-8888. Then, when Siri is active, she will prompt you: 'Which one? Mobile or Work?' Next, double-click your AirPods Pro to disconnect them.

So, when you use Siri to make a call to one of your contacts, you'll need to specify which number is correct to call. Almost all my numbers are Mobile. It's easy to remember.

It happens to me a dozen times per day. I wear AirPods Pro. SIRI makes calls made to businesses people and friends without a prompt. It even called the local police a few times. There is no solution to stop it from hapenning, unless you disconnect SIRI, which is a bad option for me, as I use it often. I tried quickly to hang up but it was too late, and many people were calling me back asking if I called.

This bug is very annoying and I hope it will be solved soon, or I will return my 2 sets of new Airpods Pro that I just purchased resantly.

If SIRI is active because of announcing incoming text messages, Google Nest cameras, and responding to your request. If you are silent she will not make any calls, but as soon as you say anything it will dial, call the closest sounding contact on your list. This is going for the last 4-5 iOS versions. And it looks like the developers are not aware of it, otherwise, it would be fixed by SIRI prompt us before making a call.

The way to avoid it is to pause and push the off button on your AirPods Pro, and it will not make foul calls. But you need to act quickly, or it will make a call.

One thing that happens to me is, Siri always calls the worst people in my contacts - people whose numbers I have cos of the way my workplace operates, but would never want to speak to on the phone.

It did it again this evening - called someone I truly can't stand.

It's really odd how it never accidentally calls people I really like 🙂

The only solution if you want to keep using Siri is to add a wrong number as part of the number - so a number that's 01625 156156, would become 00001625 156156.

But it would mean you have to manually remove the wrong bits when you wanted to call or text people.

How can Apple not know this is happening and is a real problem for people?

My post was removed by a moderator because they didn't like me talking about your puppy and mine.

The biggest problem I have with Siri making calls when I don't want it to is when I'm talking to my (now 5yo) dog. Because we did so much training when she was a puppy, I sort of speak to her a lot when we are out walking. Somehow, Siri gets the idea that I called it if I say "sorry, short walk today" or any of the million other reasons why might have to say sorry to your dog. We also have a command "safe" because she gets scared of bikes, and this command cools her down. Because of the ambient noise of motorbikes and me saying "safe", Siri often activates; in both these circumstances, because it's listening to whatever nonsense I've said next, I get random calls.

AirPods are pretty bad for Siri as a whole; The number of times I say "Siri send a message to John Smith" and it responds "Just to confirm, you'd like to call David Alexson" (the only time it confirms).

I actually think Siri has really useless for using in these circumstances, but for some reason I persist...

Same here. Siri makes random calls but I noticed it only happens when my air pods are in .

Its so bad that if my air pods are in , I have to literally watch the way I speak , if I’m having a conversation an happen to say the word ambulance , Siri is like “calling emergency services “ without asking for any confirmation. It’s honestly so annoying.

I will be visiting the Apple Store tomorrow.

now I know I’m not the only one having this same issue . 😇😇😇

My husband is blind and relies heavily on SIRI. He recently replaced his iPhone with an iPhone SE 3rd generation and this problem has come up. This is a terrible situation for a disabled person. SIRI just starts making random phone calls any time of day and he can’t shut it off quickly. This on top of the other new SIRI problem that SIRI no longer plays voicemail. Very sloppy work from Apple to drop accessibility features that were so important to the blind. It’s a shame.

I use Apple Airpods quite frequently even while not listening to music, and have recently come upon the issue of random calls. Multiple accidental calls a day and even multiple an hour with no idea why. I have gone up and down many forums trying to figure out how to turn this feature off because it has worried many family members who I only call with emergencies on hand. If there is an idea on how to turn this feature off it would be gladly appreciated.

I have a similar problem, except its calling a number not in my contacts.

i have a shortcut called “Cool the master bedroom”, if I give siri the prompt: “hey siri, cool the master bedroom” it interprets this as “call bedroom master” and calls an unfamiliar number. After googling the number it turns out its calling a kitchen and bathroom fitter in a town 30 miles away.

i never use siri to place calls, I wish they’d allow me to disable its access or at least require confirmation.

"I have to share this funny story about a SIRI response. I was training my puppy with my AirPods Pro in my ears. In the middle of the 'shake and speak' command, Siri announced a text message from my friend. After Siri read the whole message, I said, 'Good boy,' and gave my puppy a treat. Surprisingly, Siri (female voice) accepted it and responded, 'Thank you, don't mention it.'
