AirDrop conitnually Failing between iPhone and MacBook

I have an iPhone 14 Pro running iOS 17.0 and a Mac Book Pro 16" running Sonoma 14.0 Every time I try to AirDrop I get a failed notification. I was previously able to AirDrop bewteen the two. I have toggled the radios on both WiFi and Bluetooth and have toggled the AirDrop feature as well. Find my iPhone and Find my Mac are both enabled.

I spent HOURS at the local Genius Bar trying to get this issue fixed. Hours more on several phone sessions with senior tech advisors at Apple.

But the guy on the phone actually pointed me in the direction of resolving the issue myself.

My problem was that I had several different contact cards for myself, each for a separate purpose, but they all had my Apple ID on them (both email and phone) and 2 of them had my secondary Apple ID that I use for App Store and iTunes Store purchases.

I modified those cards so that only one of them contained my main Apple messaging ID phone number and email. That information was removed from ALL other cards. then I made sure that the same contact cards on my phone were identical to those on my Mac.

Restart, restart.

Problem solved: AirDrop and HandOff now both work as they should in both directions.

Who else gets excited to know they can spend oodles more money than the ordinary people pay who buy ordinary devices only to discover that their devices -- not to allow any confusing antecedents here, by "their" I mean the devices of those of us giddy enough to buy Apple products -- are replete with bugs. Not just any bugs, but APPLE bugs. These bugs are extraordinary because they can inflict a harsh sense of "WTF?!?!" and "Not AGAIN!?!" and a whole host of other perplexing and annoying emotions.

It makes me laugh to be told, when Airdrop repeatedly fails to function, "Every now and then you just need to reboot your devices." Really? How simple. Who'd a thunk.

Well, tell you what. REBOOT this! <insert gif of penguin staring at monitor whilst excitedly typing S-A-M-S-U-N-G on the keyboard>

iOS 17.4.1 and macOS 14.4.1 AirDrop fail all the time trying to send from my iPhone to my Macbook. If i try to send from my Macbook to my iPhone AirDrop can't find my iPhone. Of course, Bluetooth is turned on both devices. I just want to highlight that this problem is coming from the previous iOS version. Unfortunately, with the latest update to iOS and macOS, this problem remains. This is so frustrating!

Updated my Macbook air M2 Sonoma 14.4.1, iPhone 15 17.4.1 yesterday. Airdrop icon in iPhone says 'declined'. Toggled wifi and bluetooth, airport mode off and on, reset network and nothing.

Tried the cmd line in this thread and didn't work after both rebooting the phone and mac along with everything else. Can send from the mac to iphone but not from iphone to the mac just as mentioned in this thread.

Checked my contacts to see if my email addresses were the same and they are. It just works? No, it doesn't anymore and quite frankly Apple's software quality control is getting worse.

More info:

Airdrop from my iPhone (SE 3 aka SE 2022), running iOS 17.4.1 works to my wife's laptop running MacOS 14.2, but to my Mac Studio running 14.5 fails. AirDrop from the Mac Studio to the phone works fine. I've used AirDrop prior to this version of Sonoma and it has worked flawlessly. I can see the phone in the AirDrop app on the Mac Studio and I can see the Mac Studio in the set of devices from the phone. I've tried both photos and videos. THIS is why I hate updating my OS.

the worse for me, iPhone 11 and macbook air 2017, is that sometimes works well and sometimes just fails. I'd say its because my devices are "old" (5+years though they work amazing still) but now i see it's an issue with everyone. i saw it may be about more than one number and the personal contact card, since i also have other foreign numbers so it may be a pattern.
