AirDrop conitnually Failing between iPhone and MacBook

I have an iPhone 14 Pro running iOS 17.0 and a Mac Book Pro 16" running Sonoma 14.0 Every time I try to AirDrop I get a failed notification. I was previously able to AirDrop bewteen the two. I have toggled the radios on both WiFi and Bluetooth and have toggled the AirDrop feature as well. Find my iPhone and Find my Mac are both enabled.

Hi there,

I've tried the "sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist NoMulticastAdvertisements -bool false" command from Blade996 & Arman_Rajabzadeh and rebooted. Doesn't worked for me. Investigating the Sonoma 14.4.1 Firewall details (System menu -> Network -> Firewall -> Options...) and disabled the "Block all incoming connections". (sorry if wrong : translated from french menus). Tried a new airdrop from my iPhone and iPad (each with latest 17.4.1 update) and YES ! IT WORKS !!!

Hope this helps

Same issue, I've used Airdrop on this Mac Studio hundreds of times to upload photos ... now, after the latest Sonoma upgrade (14.4.1 to 14.5) it doesn't work. I've done the defaults write to com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist thing, I'm not using a VPN, and I've looked for other computers with a similar name in my AirDrop list of devices (all various 'fixes' that people have mentioned in this thread), but none of that worked or was applicable.

I did monitor my Console while trying to send something and found some timeout errors, but don't know how to interpret them:

Failed to resolve peer device 'IDS 599E8B32, Nm 'Mac Studio', Md 'Mac14,13', SF 0x80000A0302 < BLE DuetSync WiFiP2P Friend Owner AirDropUsable >, DFl 0x1 < Info >, AcLv = Screen (7)'. Error - Error Domain=RPErrorDomain Code=-6722 "kTimeoutErr (Request timed out before send)" UserInfo={cuErrorMsg=Request timed out before send, NSLocalizedDescription=kTimeoutErr (Request timed out before send), cuErrorDesc=kTimeoutErr (Request timed out before send)}

Just before that is:

### Session start send failed: Service com.apple.sharingd.AirDrop, PeerID 599E8B32-B55D-4785-A0ED-9AD550D9165A, CSID 0x6D01D41B, kTimeoutErr (Request timed out before send)

and before that (from the AirDrop process):

Failed to log access with error: access=<private>, error=Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=4097 "connection to service with pid 250 named com.apple.privacyaccountingd" UserInfo={NSDebugDescription=connection to service with pid 250 named com.apple.privacyaccountingd}

and before that, three things, all from the Airdrop process, related to CAML:

CAML error:47: `o' element must have `type' attribute

CAML error:47: Unknown value element `LKEventHandler'

CAML error:47: No such class `LKEventHandler'

I am experiencing persistent AirDrop issues on my iPhone 16 Pro (iOS 17.0.3) and both my MacBook Pro 14” (Sonoma 14.1) and MacBook Air 13 M2, disrupting my workflow for over six months. Despite exhaustive troubleshooting, including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth resets, software updates, and even system reinstalls, the problem endures. The items are recognised, I just always get a “failure” notice. The correct device name appears for AirDrop etc. Very occasionally a duplicate listing with an incorrect icon allows file transfer, hinting at a systemic inconsistency. This issue has not only persisted across different phones but also through recent software updates and even after a complete reinstallation of the operating system on my MacBook Pro.

Hi this has started happening to me too since i bought a 15 Pro. Airdrop constantly fails between my phone and my Macbook Pro. It has ALWAYS worked previously. I have followed all online suggestions about rebooting both devices, turning bluetooth and wifi off and on again.....nothing works and it is really frustrating...kinda negates buying Apple products for the interoperability....PLEASE HELP!

Hi again, looks like I spoke too soon. Worked last night after I followed the instructions but went to Airdrop a particularly cute photo of my husky from my phone to my Macbook and it kept failing. I am not particularly technical anymore but could you tell me what that line of code is supposed to do and what the actual issue is that prevnts this from being its normal reliable self please? Thanks!

Who else gets excited to know they can spend oodles more money than the ordinary people pay who buy ordinary devices only to discover that their devices -- not to allow any confusing antecedents here, by "their" I mean the devices of those of us giddy enough to buy Apple products -- are replete with bugs. Not just any bugs, but APPLE bugs. These bugs are extraordinary because they can inflict a harsh sense of "WTF?!?!" and "Not AGAIN!?!" and a whole host of other perplexing and annoying emotions.

It makes me laugh to be told, when Airdrop repeatedly fails to function, "Every now and then you just need to reboot your devices." Really? How simple. Who'd a thunk.

Well, tell you what. REBOOT this! <insert gif of penguin staring at monitor whilst excitedly typing S-A-M-S-U-N-G on the keyboard>
