macOS Music - "Recently Added" no longer showing all entries

Since Mountain Lion and iTunes, there was a way to view all added entries since inception of the library, in chronological order based on the added-time. This is a wonderful way of traveling back in time through the years of music, on which years which music has been added, and re-discovering old tracks.

For a long time, this has been present under the "Recently Added" section in "Library".

Since macOS Sonoma, this is no longer the case.

"Recently Added" currently shows 60 albums on my library, and I suspect this is hard-limited to this number. I find no way of lifting this limit, nor do I find a replacement view.

Edit: Notably, this feature is still present on music.apple.com.

Is this an error on my part or did macOS Sonoma depart from this - to me - essential feature of the Music app?

Its Philos,

If Recently Added is no longer leaving as you wish, you can put your library in Songs view and sort by Date Added. That will allow the time travel that you describe.

This is actually pretty critical for me as "Recently Added" has been my main way of listening to music the last 5(?) years. Working at a music venue i add a lot of albums from different bands every week. For the last couple of years "Recently Added" has been the easiest and best feature on any platform in helping me checking out bands/ artists and keeping control on my music consumption.

If this won't come back, i might actually be looking at switching to Tidal

Yep such a terrible idea. Apple should at the very least offer the option of letting you choose if you want to limit your scrolling instead of forcing this change on us or implementing a sort by Date Added on the albums section like they do with songs. One way I have found a workaround is by creating a smart playlist and viewing it with the album cover showing but unfortunately Apple does not offer a Date Added sort option. Fingers crossed they restore this to how it was because this is seriously such an unnecessary and disruptive change.

This seems deliberate as is completely unacceptable. Why is Apple crippling its own software? Do they want to force us into their streaming service? If they push us too much with such anti-consumer behaviour, they'll end up pushing us into the competition's arms instead. Sheesh! I'm sending feedback through their website, but I'll feign ignorance and, treating this as a bug (even though we all know it isn't), give them a call as well.

I absolutely agree with this! ☹️☝️ I was extremely frustrated when I discovered this the first time I "upgraded" to Sonoma. I spoke to Apple Support, however there wasn't much help there... I had to revert back to Ventura because of battery issues amongst other problems and by doing that it brought back the Recently Added section. Then when the first update to the Sonoma OS came I once again tried the upgrade. Most of the other issues were gone including the battery problem I had, however the album artwork in the 'Unlimited Recently Added' format was gone again and now only displays a few rows... really disappointing as I find it hard to easily locate music and having it in that format made me easily recognise where I was in a span of time so to speak and therefore where to locate specific songs easily. I really really hope they fix this.... It was a great way of going back through time and memories of my life visually which I loved.
