Apple Watch Series 3 unable to connect to iPhone 12

I recently acquired an Apple Watch Series 3 from my grandmother who said she no longer had a use for it. I’ve tried to pair it to my iPhone 12 (which is currently on iOS 17.0.1), but it seems as if it can’t find it at all. I’ve restarted both devices and no luck. WiFi and Bluetooth were on the entire time. Any suggestions as to what I can do?

iPhone 12, iOS 17

Hi remnvnt,

We'd love to help see if we can get the issue resolved for you. Do you know if your Grandmother unpaired and erased the Apple Watch before it was given to you? If not, that is likely the issue and the steps below will help so that it can be removed from her Apple ID and added to yours.

"If you need to unpair your Apple Watch, see Unpair and erase Apple Watch.

For more information about setup and pairing, see the Apple Support article Set up your Apple Watch.

Cheers!

Hello remnvnt,

When she unpaired the Apple Watch from her iPhone it automatically restores it to its factory settings. You can read more about that here: Unpair and erase your Apple Watch - Apple Support. Please note the following:

Before erasing all content and settings on your Apple Watch, your iPhone creates a new backup of your Apple Watch. You can use the backup to restore a new Apple Watch. After your Apple Watch unpairs, you'll see the Start Pairing message.

Follow the steps on this page to see if they can help with getting the Apple Watch paired to the iPhone: If you can't pair an Apple Watch with your iPhone - Apple Support.

We hope this information helps you out.

Kind regards!

My apologies for my late response, but my grandmother confirmed that she has indeed unpaired the watch from her iCloud account beforehand. She did mention that it would try and update but would get stuck downloading it, so I’m not sure if it’s because the storage has ran too low to even install the update.

I have tried to pair it manually, but I had no dice there either unfortunately. I don’t expect there to be a resolution to this issue, but if there is, it would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

remnvnt
