Photos recognizing pet as person

I have an iPhone 15 Pro running ios 17.0.2. The Photos app created 2 albums of my dad's dog using the new pet recognition feature. However, I can't merge them together because he's labeled as a pet in one album and as a person in another. Is there any fix for this?

I have the problem also. I want all pics of my dog in the same album - don't care if it's the People or the Pet one. Not being able to merge them is silly. The suggestion to say "these people are not..." isn't helpful, because now those pictures aren't in a person/pet album and I really don't want to go through all 18000 pics and find them to properly label them.

I have a similar problem. I have 2 photo albums in people & pets with my dog’s photos. However, 1 photo album is recognized as a person, while the other is recognized as a pet. Due to this, I’m not able to merge the 2 albums. How do I make 1 of that album recognize my dog as a pet instead of a person?

Hello rsomp,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

If it misidentifies him as a person, you can correct it and mark him as a pet using these steps:

"Fix misidentifications

  1. Open the Photos app  on your iPhone.
  2. Tap Albums, tap People & Pets, then tap the person or pet that’s misidentified.
  3. Tap Select, then tap Show Faces.
  4. Tap the images that are misidentified, tap the More button, then tap These are Not [name].

You can also fix misidentifications while viewing a photo in your library. Tap the Info button or swipe up to see the photo information. Tap the misidentified person or pet in the bottom-left corner of the photo, then tap This is Not [name]."

Additional details can be found here: Identify people and pets in Photos on iPhone

If the issue persists can you provide a few more details? Also, are you seeing duplicates of the same photos?

Cheers!

I’ve posted this elsewhere, but maybe someone over here knows how to also achieve the inverse: how do I convince photos my kids in puppy costumes are people, not pets?

(these are the worst of the photos as far as facial visibility

Quite a few fall photos for several years are unable to be labeled as a person despite the faces being clearly visible (they wore these *a lot* around Halloween haha)

"People" has to have actual faces to identify! But you can include names in the captions of the pictures, and then a search for the name will get it. I select a "People" person and select them all and add a caption. Doing that, I can include people who aren't directly facing the camera.

I should add that, entering a caption erases what's already there. So with multiple people you have to be careful.
