Urgent Help Needed: Stolen Credit Cards Used to Purchase iPhones in Apple Store Ginza, Tokyo

Hello Apple Community,

I hope you can help me with a distressing situation I'm facing. Recently, my credit cards were stolen in Tokyo, and to my shock, they were used to purchase multiple iPhone 14 Pro Max devices at the Apple Store in Ginza. The store manager, upon investigating, informed me of these purchases, which clearly were not authorized by me.

I reported the theft to the Japanese police, but unfortunately, their response has been less than helpful. The banks are also not willing to waive the charges because the cards were used physically. However, they did express concern about the numerous attempts to challenge the credit limit on my cards during these unauthorized transactions, and they recommended involving Apple in the investigation.

With the support of the Singapore embassy, I made an attempt to contact Apple. However, my communication with Apple has so far only led to technical support, and I'm unsure how to escalate this issue to the appropriate department.

I feel this situation is incredibly unfair, and I'm reaching out to the Apple Community in the hope that someone here might be able to guide me on how to get in touch with the right people at Apple who can investigate this matter further.

Has anyone faced a similar situation, or does anyone have advice on how to escalate this issue with Apple's customer support to address unauthorized transactions at an Apple Store? Any insights or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Something serious may be going on here. My mother had the same issue this week, this time the people use her amex to purchase on the Apple store Kawasaki- they had a few transactions without pin- and ended up charging 10 K - The fact that this is something happening to several people at various Apple stores at Tokyo is not normal. The credit card company said they were physical transactions hence those were legit transactions. If we get more than one case to investigate and I can help - please let me

know.

Yes I did. However, the banks could only waive a portion. Unfortunately, the Japanese police are not very helpful. Could they just investigate it might lead to something. I lodged a local police report but they do not have any jurisdiction over other country's affairs, though they also suspected apple staff might be negligent in this. Now I'm caught in between the unhelpful Japanese police and the banks.

Sorry for your predicament, but the seller is usually not responsible as long as legitimate cards were used. You need to work with the banks. In the US, credit card sales are generally protected by law if there is a theft or other scam involved - most banks will only make you responsible for $50. That is something you need to figure out with the laws in your region.

Hey, i came across your post and i am currently struggling with the same issue. The difference is my stolen credit card is used in Shinjuku Apple store, and my bank refused to recognise it as a fraud. I do think the staff is negligent too in the transaction, as we also received multiple failed credit cards transaction . It is very frustrating as i have also contacted apple but they just cannot help. Ive also reported to the japanese police.

Can i know if there is any update on this case at all?

Hi Adellla,

Sorry to hear that. It's probably a syndicate. The Japanese police told me that Apple is unwilling to cooperate on the cctv findings and I'll have to wait for further updates. The Singapore Embassy has also confirmed this. I'm truly disappointed with Apple and their professionalism. So much for their values. Nevertheless, I do hope the credit card companies waive off your debt, don't give up
