Extra step was added to prevent accidental face changes. Simply hard press the face of your watch and swipe when the Edit menu appears.

What stupid thing for Apple to do, default this functionality off. Agree with other posters, this was a waste of time trying to get my watch back to what it used to

Well, your option is to make sure that you've updated to watchOS 10.2 and turn on the Swipe to Change Faces setting. Or, to do nothing and be angry about it. Entirely your choice.

From the threads, it appears the “simply press” feature that adds 3 steps to the previous 1 isn’t going over too well. Hopefully Apple fixes it and goes back to how it was. To suggest “accidentally” changing the face as a legit reason to remove feature is ridiculous imo. What’s the point of having all those different watch faces now if one has to action several steps to access them. Silly update.

I agree 100%; excepting that I would replace “silly” with “stupid”.

The legacy one step swipe process removal was not documented as a change (that I could find). That in turn has caused every legacy Apple Watch owner of incalculable amounts of wasted time while trying to switch watch faces.

¿Accidentally passively switching to a different a watch face display is out? ¿Accidentally editing personalized watch faces is in?

The logic for replacing the time tested instant “one step swipe anywhere & see” process with a “multiple step button press, hold, validate, face swipe, face press” process is mindless.

“Accidental face changes”? When has that ever happened??

It used to happen to me a couple of times a week. And, we say complaints about it here on the forums. Keep in mind that Apple has access to huge amounts of user data. They know exactly how people use the devices. So, while you may not have experienced the problem, that doesn't mean the problem didn't exist.

Having to press - swipe - then press again is so annoying.

Does anyone know how to switch back to IOS 9?

That is not possible.

I’m happy that you are pleased with the change. Seriously. And I appreciate that Apple is trying to eliminate our accidentally changing Watch Faces.

Like many of us, I have multiple watch faces that I have created for specialized task groups.

In the past multi tasking with my Apple Watch was quick and simple.

I could be on Watch Face “1”, swipe 3 times to scroll to a full screen sized Watch Face “4”, passively view or actively start what I wanted, and then easily swipe back 3 times to where I started.

Now, the “scrolled to” Watch Face “4” is minimized and so small that most of the compilations are not readable. I have to do more steps to enable viewing or starting whatever and then return to where I started from.

So the cumulative steps and the time involved to do the above have increased significantly.

“Changing something” on a Watch Face, both then and now, requires a conscious edit and that’s a good thing.

Cheers.

I agree. I have _never_ accidentally changed my watch face and now I'm unlikely to change it at all because of the extra effort. I used to change it at least 2-4 times a day according to my activity and outfit.

In addition, going into the mode where I can "edit" a watch face has the added problem of possibly accidentally modifying a watch face. So I feel cautious to even go there.

I may just pick a face that will be the least common denominator between my all activities and outfits. That is, something less specific and special for the occasion and more of "just a watch face".
