Setting Main Display for login MacOS Ventura 13.6

Current issue that my college is having is an issue with our Mac Studios connected to multiple monitors. Typically this is a setup we use only in classrooms.

The issue arose after updating from Monterey to Ventura.

When the Mac Studio restarts or is powered off, the next time it comes back up the order that the screens display is not the order that they need to be in. It reverts back to the Crestron (which has a large wall mounted TV connected via HDMI) as the Main Display. We don't want that. We want the Studio Display as the main display and the Crestron to be the extended display of the Studio Display.

We can go into our local admin account and change the setting & if we just log out and log back in, it works fine. Same can be said for non-admin users.

The issue lies with the fact that after a restart or a power down, the settings revert back to what they were previous (both for the Login Screen & the non-admin users).

We need fix for this so that the Studio display is the main monitor for all activities whether the user is logged in or not.

Hi bradleyfromtullahoma,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! We would first recommend that you are following the steps below that can help:

Extend or mirror your Mac desktop across multiple displays

1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Displays in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
2. Click the name of your display on the right, click the “Use as” pop-up menu, then choose an option.
3. Note: If you are using a Mac laptop or iMac, you must have an external display connected to your Mac to see these options. If you are using a device with no built-in display, such as a Mac mini or Mac Studio, you must have more than one display connected to see these options.
4. To set up some displays for mirroring and others for an extended desktop, start by setting up all displays as an extended desktop. Then, press and hold the Option key, and drag one display icon onto another display icon to mirror those two displays.

If the issue remains, we recommend that you reach out to Apple Support directly to take a further look. Please reach out here:

Hope this helps!

Have a great day.
