Messenger app active status not working

Suddenly I can no longer see when any friends are active on the messenger app. My active status is turned on. I’ve tried deleting the app and re-installing it, but this makes no difference. When I delete the Messenger app, I can then see friends active status when I go into messenger through the Facebook app. But as soon as I re-install the Messenger app, I can no longer see any friends active status, either in the app, or going into messenger chat though the Facebook app.

Any ideas would be much appreciated as I’ve tried everything I can think of.
