Apple Watch face won’t swipe since update

Can’t swipe watch face since update. Fix was to press on screen and swipe to face desired but that doesn’t even work anymore. Turned off watch and done with iWatch for awhile till this silly update is dealt with. Feels good actually to go back to an old school watch.

Your Apple Watch was Working As Designed. The 1 second firm press to change mode and allow swiping is the new way in WatchOS 10. I have no idea why it might have stopped working, but a reboot fixes many glitches so it should still work when you power up again. Chances are that was a one time glitch.

I just upgraded to a series 9 from a 2 and am bummed by no easy watch face swipe. I was looking forward to this and having more responsive face swapping. There was a setting to give users the option. Why take away the choice to decide how you want it to behave. Bad UX decision Apple!!

Tap and hold on the center of the watch face. It should shrink. You can swipe left and right in the shrunk mode. Tap the watch face you want to select to make it the current watch face.

I HATE the new software update. Why did Apple change so many things that worked perfectly well. What happened to the side swipes?!? and so many other features that I loved and were working well!!!

watchOS 10.2 re-enables left/right watch face swiping

•Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch.

•Scroll down and choose “Clock”.

•Toggle on the “Swipe to Switch Face” setting.

Swipe-up has moved to the flat oval side button next to the Digital Crown. A quick press and release. DO NOT hold the button.

Apple does not read this user-to-user technical support forum for feedback.

But you can send Apple feedback via:

Yes you CAN still swipe to change faces! However I have found that they have now buried the on/off switch for the “Swipe to Switch Watch Face” down in the settings.

To get to it,

1) open your SETTINGS app

2) scroll down to the CLOCK setting

3 Tap in to it and you will find the SWIPE TO SWITCH WATCH FACE setting

4) Turn it ON or OFF (depending on your personal needs).

I set up and use different faces with differing ccomplications and use the swipe to switch feature to allow me to rapidly get to the face I need. For example - one face w/all the health features, one for media control, one for work & communication functions, one for weather & the outdoors w/astronomy stuff.

The feature that I find irritatingly inconsistent is the “double tap to speak the time” which is also a buried setting. It works wonderfully w/the Mickey Mouse Face, and inconsistently on a few other faces, but not at all on the majority of them.

It's an incredibly useful feature as it allows you to hear the time w/o have to look at your watch (as when your hand is holding something, etc). aj

It has not been reintroduced. The old functionality has not been put back. Just Apple making an unnecessary change so developers can keep their jobs.

The problem with saying "the masses spoke" is that no one is going to say anything if there's something that is working just fine and they like it, they are only going to comment if there is a complaint. So, I for one, agree COMPLETELY with GernBlanston99 - I have been very FRUSTRATED wondering what was wrong with my watch and why I could no longer swipe to change faces and sometimes even can't swipe to read my notifications!
The reason I stumbled upon this thread is because the change is an UNWELCOME and FRUSTRATING problem that I'm looking for the solution to make it work like it did before the update.
So, NO - THANK YOU, Apple. I did NOT want this.

So we can assume then, that you have not updated your watch to WatchOS 10.2, where this fixed and you can now swipe through your faces as you once could? Did you read how to do that? By going to Settings App ON your watch, Clock and turn on Swipe Faces?

Well one reason is because 1000’s of others have complained…to the point of if you do a google search, there are already ample blogs talking about the silly update.

Again, people who are happy about the change aren't going to be writing blog posts about it.

Anyone now, needs to go back to phone and choose watch face (ridiculous UX) or press, hold, edit swipe, press again - which is an equally silly UX.

No, you don't need to go back to the phone. Press and hold on the watch face, then swipe.
