MacBook Pro 13" won't shut off after download of Sonoma?

When I go to log off the MacBook Pro ask for my password, I give it and then opens the commuter for use. I want to log off, not go back to the password to reopen

You shouldn't have to enter your password to log out of your user account on your Mac. If you see a screen asking you to enter your password, that's the login screen. You can simply click 'Cancel' below the option to enter your password and the screen should go to sleep afterwards.
