Where can I find my RECOVERY KEY

I'm trying to setup my son's iPod Touch (5th Gen) and get logged into iCloud using my Apple id. But I'm seriously struggling with this. I got through the login portion with my Apple ID and password successfully. But immediately after, a screen popped up and asked for my “Recovery Key”. I have no work election of ever been given recovery or setting up a recovery key. I've searched endlessly on Apple.com and Google for ANY suggestions or any possible way to obtain my “Recovery Key” all to no avail.

Just for safe measure it specifically states the following on my son's iPod:

“Recovery Key”

“Your recovery key can be used to verify your identity when you do not have access to a trusted device.

Enter the recovery key provided when you enabled two step verification.”

My issue is, I was never given a recovery key when I enabled two step verification. And when I go on to apple.id.com it is nowhere under the two step verification portion of the website or anywhere else pertaining to passwords. PLEASE HELP!!
