So yeah….. I had a scheduled call earlier this afternoon with a senior member of their tech team, and she actually really did know what she was talking about. The two tech support people I spoke with last night both told me my recovery contact should have been able to generate the 28 digit key after the 6 digit code…. So here I was thinking it was an Apple issue and they’d be able to get me into my acct…. But I was quite wrong and it took her no time to explain that the reason I was being prompted to enter the 28 digit key was because earlier this year I had generated the recovery key. She doesn’t get access to that. Of course I’m a moron and stored my recovery key in my notes, however I did write it down somewhere. It got misplaced in a move. So I’m basically totally screwed. I will NEVER put that kind of security on an iPhone ever again.
I even tried to see if there was any way my legacy contact could get it, since humans are the ones who authenticate documents of a deceased customer. She said no. I wonder if I walked into an Apple Store with my legacy contact to verify we are who we are if that would make a difference. I’m willing to try anything.
