Logging into Apple Account with just password and recovery key, after device is lost or broken

Hi, I'm wondering about the following scenario: If I lose my phone or it breaks, and I need to sign into my Apple account in a new device to restore my data and apps, will I be able do it with just a password and recovery key? In this scenario, I don't have a trusted device as it is lost or broken. I don't have a trusted phone number as it is lost with the device. (Let's say I don't want to wait for my cell provider to transfer my number to my new device)

I just have my apple ID and password that I have memorized, and a recovery key that I have kept somewhere safe.

Here's what I found on an apple support article:

"A recovery key is a secret 28-character code that you can use, along

with a trusted phone number and an Apple device, to recover your account

and data."

"To change your Apple Account password using your recovery key, you also need either a trusted device (with a passcode or password) or a trusted phone number.

If you don’t have access to a trusted device or you’re locked out of your Apple Account, you need to provide your recovery key to reset your password and regain access to your account. You’ll also need to enter the verification code sent to your trusted phone number through two-factor authentication."

Doesn't seem like what I want to do is possible. In which case, I would resort to a recovery contact number, which I'm hesitant to do because I believe SMS verification is less secure.

Seems Apple provides for your scenario, by also offering an "Account Recovery" process. You then have the opportunity tp prove your identity when a "trusted" device can not be used for verification that you are you.

To learn more about using account recovery instead of a recovery key.

See: How to use account recovery when you can’t reset your Apple Account password - Apple Support

Eg: says:

"If you use two-factor authentication and can’t sign in or reset your password, you can regain access after an account recovery waiting period."

"What is account recovery?

Account recovery is a process designed to get you back into your Apple Account when you don’t have enough information to reset your password. For security reasons, it might take several days or longer before you can use your account again. We know this delay is inconvenient, but it’s important so that we can keep your account and information safe."

"In some cases, you might be able to shorten the account recovery process or reset your password immediately by verifying a six-digit code sent to your primary email address. You might also be able to shorten the wait time by providing credit-card details to confirm your identity. If you’re given this option, an authorization request goes to the card issuer.*

Note: You may be able to sign in to your account online with a new device : https://account.apple.com

Eg: says:

"Any time you set up a new device, make a purchase, or use any Apple service, you will be asked to sign in with your Apple Account email or phone number and password. Once signed in you’ll have access to the service and all the personal information in your account."

(ie: You would try getting a verification code via email.)
