iPhone 15 battery draining without use

I’m finding my new phone, which arrived on Monday, has a shocking battery life. Overnight, it’s lost 40% of its charge despite not being used. I don’t have any notifications enabled and I’m not sure what’s going on.

Is this normal for the iPhone 15, or do I seem to have a dodgy model?

I’ve upgraded from an iPhone 11 with a dying battery health, but even that one is no where near as bad as this!

iPhone 15, iOS 17

I am having a similar issue. I have 2 identical iphone 15 on the same cox network that are not being used as they are xmas gifts. I noticed 1 battery drains 3-4x faster than the other and could not figure it out.

I noticed this today when tracking battery useage. Pic below shows the phone whos battery is dying shows 'No Cell Coverage' is using 99% of the battery useage. As you can see, the phone on the right's battery depleted from 95%-67% in 24 hours of no useage. Phone on the left went from 91%-85% in the same 24 hour period, however does not have the 'No Cell Coverage' under useage.

I put both in airplane mode just now and will charge them both to 100% and see what happens in the following 24hrs.

This is probably normal for the first day or two then it will settle back to more typical usage. If you have just completed the initial setup there will be a lot of background jobs running and consuming power. This might include functions like cleanup of any software upgrades or default files from the factory pre-load which are not required for your language preferences. If you are upgrading and migrating from a previous iPhone it will also import all your media - things like music and photos, which are typically synchronised from your iCloud storage and other online sources. My experience of setting up a new phone had photo history still streaming in a day later, and it used a LOT of airtime to do it so there would be a higher than usual battery load. All of this happens unseen, and while you are not using the phone for anything else. The perfect opportunity is while you sleep!
