Sonoma Calendar date format

Just upgraded to Sonoma (14.0) and Calendar is no longer respecting my system date format setting.

My system date format setting is YYYY-MM-DD, which Calendar previously respected. But it's now, when I press Shift-Command-T ('Go to date') it wants MM/DD/YYYY. I'm guessing it's getting the latter format from my region (Canada). But it should respect the date format.

Other apps (e.g. Mail) are respecting the system date format setting. have no individual application setting for Calendar.

Fix?

I think I have a relatively good workaround now. Go to System Settings > General > Language & Region, and set the following:

Preferred Languages: English (Canada) - Primary

Region: Paraguay

Date format: 2023-08-19

It' important that the Preferred Language is English (Canada) and not just English because this changes the date format to YYYY-MM-DD on many websites, including icloud.com > Calendar.

Another tidbit is that if you have an Apple Numbers document containing cells that have the Data Format: Currency with Currency: Canadian Dollar, and you want to display those cells as $123 and not CA$123, you have to go to Numbers > File > Advanced > Language & Region... and change the Language from System - English to English and the Region from Paraguay to Canada.

I first noticed this with CheckBook Pro, where some pages used my System Setting (Canada & yyyy-mm-dd) and other pages used the illogical mm/dd/yyyy format. I only have one computer running Somona, so I hadn't noticed the issue in Calendar until today (all other computers are pre-Sonoma).

I, too, filed feedback to Apple.

I have the same date formatting problems.

Numbers, Calendar, Reminders don't respect the system format.

A third-party app, CoconutBattery, still follows the system format.

This is super annoying. Feedback sent to Apple.

This remains broken in 14.3.1 (23D60).

Two months ago I filed FB13468535, citing this discussion as well as FB13221469 and FB13221502. As expected, complete silence.

Apple, do you read this stuff? Do you look at bugs we file? Do you accept that this is a defect? Do you plan to address it, or at least acknowledge it?

The more I look into this, the odder it is.

My Region is set to Canada, and my preferred date format is YYYY-MM-DD.

If I click on a Calendar event it shows me the date in the format D Mmm YYYY. If I click on the date to edit it, it displays it (and requires it to be edited) as MM/DD/YYYY.

Makes no sense.

In macOS 13 it respected my preferred date format.

Do you know why Calendar doesn't respect the Date Format other than changing system-wide Region settings?

And do you have a workaround for this? I would prefer the ISO format but I could live with most things other than the weird US MM/DD/YY ordering.

Thank you, @Recycleur. Just to confirm that, with those settings, you are seeing the YYYY-MM-DD date format in the date picker in macOS's Calendar app? As you'll see from the thread, that's not the case for anyone else here.

Command-shift-T summons the date-picker:

If it is working correctly for you, could you confirm what version of macOS Sonoma you're using?

This did exactly what I wanted. Gave me back my intuitive (to me) date-entry, and your second tidbit got rid of the country-code prefix on all my Numbers currency fields.

In Sonoma 14.2.1, in Calendar, Settings, General, I have unclicked “Show Holidays Calendar” but Calendar continues to show “Glazed Ham Day” (April 15), “Mushroom Day” (April 16) and “National Herb Week.”

How do I get rid of these?

Nonetheless, Apple failed to make any mention in the 14.4 release notes, and Apple has still failed to make any response to my bug FB13468535, which remains open.

I have the same issue after moving to Sonoma 14.1.1 with Region/Date set to "Canada" and "yyyy-mm-dd". All entries are Calendar entries are showing "mm/dd/yyyy".

It seems there is something else at play. I have my settings exactly as you do but I also have experienced this anomalous behaviour in Calendar described above. It also is evident in Quicken
