Unable to login into MacBook Air

I have tried to reset the password with my AppleID, but it says there is a problem connecting with the server. I have tried to connect to my home wifi and my phone as a hotspot, still no luck with the server and when I click “forgot password,” it says an internet connection is needed (even after the wifi bars appear to show connected and not grayed out). I have landed on the macOS Recovery screen, but I have never gotten to a place where there is a “top toolbar” or way to access utilities. Please help :(

You may want to check if there any outages: Apple - Support - System Status (green dot = available : else try later)

or

What to do: If your Mac isn't connecting to the internet over Wi-Fi - Apple Support

Wondering which MacOS version is installed on your MacBook Air.

If you haven't already, you might want to try following the steps in the appropriate Apple support online article"


(1) For recent MacOS versions:

What to do: If you forgot your Mac Login Password : https://support.apple.com/HT202860

or

(2) For macOS Mojave or earlier :

Change or reset the password of a macOS user account in macOS Mojave or earlier - Apple Support


If needed:

MacBook Air support website (info. / support / contact):

MacBook Air - Official Apple Support
