Apogee Duet for Mac/iPad audio interface not recognised right after Sonoma install

My Duet isn't given as a choice of the Output/Input options in the Sound settings on my iMac after I upgraded to Sonoma.

It's not the Duet - it works on other computers I connected it to.

Also - audio clicks are heard through the speakers that only the Duet (and the Mac) is connected to when, e.g., I restart the Mac, or unplug the USB connector; thus - it's for sure a software issue, and on the Mac's side - not the Duet's.

I'm very sorry to hear experiences like yours, even more after investing in such an expensive device.

Being Class Compliant it should not even need software or firmware updates, but may be back then the term "Class Compliant" was not even common, I really don't remember.

I dig a bit and found It will be hard Apogee itself release any firmware update if needed after calling End-Of-Life, so I would be already looking on how to go back to Ventura. Still I don't know who's to blame, Apogee, Apple, or both, but sure they would blame each other. Is it planned obsolescence (forbidden in the EU)? It's debatable based on licenses and what's indeed legal or illegal to do nor since when. Don't worry too much, Sonoma didn't improve my system and I keep fighting the same old bugs.

The Apogee Duet reminds me of the "RME BabyFace Pro II"?, small form factor, cable breakout, nice for iPad/iPhone. I have no relation to them but I almost purchased it.

Instead I went much cheaper and purchased a EVO8, good for me. I tried it in Sonoma right now, but it gets listed in Audio Settings, using both USB-C and USB-A of Mac Mini M1.

I wish you find a solution for the original Apogee Duet, as I find no valid reason to add nonsense garbage to this planet, but I'd go back to Ventura and enjoy it, otherwise you'd be angry like me all day long, and that's insane, I tell you.

If it is iPad (and Mac) then it is "Class Compliant".

"Class Compliant" devices don't need any drivers or external software for the most basic features of any audio interface to work, be it on iPad or macOS.

The interface should be listed in your Audio Settings, even more if you only upgraded to Sonoma without changing cables, although if you're using any USB-HUB in-between you may double check by direct connection of the Duet to the Mac).

You could also subscribe/observe this other thread (unsolved) as there are some similarities (bug in my opinion):

Is it powered via Thunderbolt or USB? If that's the case, that may explain the white noise coming only after it is powered and between reboots. There's also a standard inner command for USB reset and probably Thunderboolt too, and even if the interface is not recognized by macOS it would explain your experience.

But IF the Audio Interface is Class Compliant it must be a another Bug in macOS Sonoma 14 as I can still find many bugs in this and previous macOS versions unfixed, some I already reported, and loads that I have not.

Same behaviour using Behringer U-Phoria audio interface.

Device is recognized, I can see audio being recorded but result is only noise that has nothing to do with what I played.

U-Phoria still works well on my MacBook Pro (Big Sur).

Too bad we can’t use LOGIC PRO to perform recording until Apple does something regarding this major failure in their OS.

Not impressed by QA applied to this release…

I meant I checked on the Apogee site and my firmware is the latest version.

Apogee says all their kit compatible (https://apogeedigital.com/home-feature-news/apogee-compatible-with-macos-sonoma#:~:text=Apogee%20is%20pleased%20to%20announce,the%20latest%20installer%20for%20Sonoma.)

...But then they mention an installer (of what?) for Duet 2 for Sonoma.

I filled in the form for this installer anyway; radio silence (weekend?!)...

No - mine's a Duet for Mac/iPad: came out just before the 2.
