Why is Searchpartyd taking up so much cpu?

Searchpartyd is always sucking up cpu on my Mac. My computer is so slow to react and I have a hard time getting work done. Can anyone give me a definitive answer as to what this actually is associated with and what the purpose is? I particularly love it when it is running 101.0 % of cpu.

and

Can I kill it?

I am Running Sonoma 14.0

3 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5

Radeon Pro 560X 4 GB

8 GB 2667 MHz DDR4

If you had no issues before you upgraded to macOS Sonoma,

I would not suspect now you all of a sudden have a browser hijacker from 2021.

i can add searchpartyd is built into the macOS —

you can see it in the list from Terminal.app

ls -a /usr/libexec/

From the manual—

MacBook-Pro ~ %

 man searchpartyd | more

If you have shutdown and restarted more than once since the upgrade...

you can try SafeBoot Use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support to sort anomalies. Login and test, reboot as normal and compare your results.

To trouble shoot further you can:

—Test issue in another user (or guest user) account Change Users & Groups settings on Mac - Apple Support

This will tell you if it a universal issue or isolated to your user/admin account.

Uninstall all third party apps that are Cleaners/Optimizers/VPN/Anti-Virus

all known to cause issues on the macOS
